Glastonbury Weather - Wellies or Sunnies? Site preparation and sunshine

Camping gear should be already and the weather is coming into line, amazingly. Even with a bit of dampness this morning at Pilton the site will see a lot of dry weather in the next few days as preparations continue before Wednesday.

Update Monday 22nd July

Outlook - Still looking mostly fine and dry, sunny and a touch warmer!

There has been some light rain this morning, from the rain band affecting much of southern England but it hasn't amounted to much for the site and Tuesday will be dry for setting up to continue.

Forecast details

High pressure builds across the UK on Tuesday and then lurks close to southern Britain right into the weekend. Cloud will come and go from the west, with a few light showers possible on Friday but nothing major. So a lot of fine and dry, bright weather sunny spells and strong sunshine at that. In the end the high does have to give way and all the frontal bands of cloud and rain which have been trying to reach Somerset all week, will succeed. That could be later Sunday but that is a fair way off at the moment, so for now we'll go with the positive picture for this year's Glastonbury. Temperatures in the high teens to low twenties and never that windy.

Fine & dry, getting warmer, showers nearby on Friday

The huge planning operation has to carry on what ever the weather but the prospect of a fine festival must bring a smile to many faces.

Thurs Forecast

Not everyone wants it too get much warmer than forecast currently. ‘Seed and Bean’ are the Official chocolate partner for the Festival and they aren’t that keen for a repeat of the hot 2013, as chocolate isn’t too happy in the heat and most people are just after liquid refreshment, similarly a very wet Glasto hurts sales too. Founder Steve Rudden explained "A lot of rain means people aren’t as keen to mooch about looking at stalls but dampened spirits can easily be lifted with a bar of chocolate to share in the tent".

For those  liquid refreshments, the Cider Bus owned by Somerset Cider Brandy is legendary and cider maker Julian Temperley has been selling cider at Glastonbury since the first festival in 1970!   Being wise to the UK weather he caters for all eventualities from the summer staple of a cold cup of cider for those warm afternoons or if it does turn cool and damp then a “hot spiced cider with a little bit of Cider brandy” to warm your cockles.

So while it's looking pretty good weatherwise, I would never say to leave wellies behind and the forecast for Sunday still has some doubt. The advice from the Netweather forum is " wear your wellies and then you don't have to carrry them" Sunglasses, hat and suncream, yes! Only 2 more sleeps.
