Ready for a long weekend, bank holiday weather

So Far

Overall for the UK, April was one of the sunniest on record, May 2015 has been cooler than average and we’re now heading towards the second May bank holiday weekend, the last long weekend until end of August! Is the weather going to pull something special out of the bag? And for some it’s half term holiday too.

This week has already brought hefty thundery showers with heavy downpours and hail. Thursday and Friday will see some warmth as temperatures head from 12 or 13C up to the high teens. That seems promising. However, the warmth doesn’t look like it is going to really last over the weekend and there will be some rain about too. Even the warmth isn’t that special, as we’ve already seen over 25C this year, it’s just it’s not going to feel as cool as it has done recently.

Mostly there will be a lot of dry, fine weather about, a few showers and a band of proper rain moving southwards through Saturday night, still over S.Britain on Sunday

Daily Details

Friday evening - A few showers clipping East Anglia and SE England, NW Wales but mainly dry and bright. Blustery for Scotland. Overnight winds ease, chilly in the north 4C, still mild in south 12C

Saturday - Warm, settled and dry thanks to ridge of high pressure, rain lurking away to NW. A fine day for most with light winds, temperatures widely in the mid to high teens. Rain and freshening south winds arriving by evening for W.Scotland and NW Northern Ireland.

Sat. night – overnight rain moving across N.Ireland and Scotland into N.England and NW Wales

Sunday – brightening up for N. Britain and N.Ireland behind the night rain with sunshine but cooler air. Few sharp showers into N.Scotland.  Cloudy and damp weather for Wales and central/southern England moving SE. Patchy rain, grey skies feeling a bit cooler

Monday – cooler air with NW breeze but still a lot of fine and bright weather about. Just the odd shower for E.Britain, for most dry.

Moderate Pollen levels-  a mix of tree pollen (Oak) and grass pollen. When the sun does appear, it is strong at this time of year so do remember the sun cream, skin can burn even through cloudy skies. If you are off work, enjoy the extra day!

And for Half Term?

If you have half term off school – the cooler but quite settled theme looks like continuing with a few showers about, so good enough for getting out with the kids. Then later in the week there are more signs of rain but that is a fair way off.
