Update Thursday 23rd

Only 3 more days to go! The weather is changing, becoming cooler and more unsettled

Temperatures look even lower now for Sunday, perhaps only 13C

There will be bands of rain for England on Sunday. Currently, the NMM Netweather forecast models show heavy rain away north of London and rain away to the SE later in the day. This means a cloudy, cool and calm race. However, if the track of these rain bands speed up or wave south/or north it could be a different story and other models do show rain for most of Sunday.

Previous Update - Tues 21st

This week has brought some fine weather for the last stage training. Sunny and dry. The east winds did pick up midweek for southern Britain so it remains warm in the strong sunshine but feeling cool in the shade. This settled spell looks like being interrupted before the weekend starts. Keep an eye on the forecast for central London

A cool race day

Temperatures -It’s not going to be roasting, which should be a relief to the runners. London saw 25C last week and recently has been up to 19C. Temperatures currently are forecast to be around 15C as cooler air spreads over the UK this weekend from the NW. Still any sunshine will be strong and you need sun cream.

Weather – there will be rain showers about at the weekend. It looks like most of the day will be dry and bright but there could be early rain. It’s still 6 days away and there is some uncertainty with the unsettled spell for the end of the week.

Winds – It does look like being blustery. The cooler air will be accompanied by a moderate to fresh NW or Westerly wind. This does mean the wind will be against runners, moving westwards in the last few miles London Bridge towards the Mall. That will make the air feel cooler too.

Spectators- depending on where you are, you could be squashed up with lots of other people and protected from the cool breeze. The sunshine is still strong even if the air temperatures are down. The Virgin Money page has lots of information and advises to take “Comfortable clothes (especially shoes) are a must. You should be prepared for a typical April day in London – sun, showers and wind” See their webpage with route maps

Good luck to everyone running on Sunday!

Also on Sunday, the Madrid Rock & Roll Marathon, named due to the rather hilly route. Light winds and not too hot at 19C with bright skies Forecast here
