The MotoGP teams roll into Austin, Texas as the storm season gets into it's stride, how is the race weekend shaping up?
This is usually a tricky forecast, as the storm season is really getting into it's stride around now, and even with the slow start to this years season it has come to life over the past week or so.
One thing is almost certain, at some point over the weekend the COTA circuit will get some rain, whether it hits the main sessions remains to be seen, but it will change the track characteristics, and if it arrives during the races will have a major impact, levelling the playing field for the satellite and open class teams a little against the full works outfits. The always informative David Emmett (@motomatters on Twitter) explains the potential impact for each class much better than I ever could:

Austin is a borderline call today as storms are more likely along the Gulf coast, but it only takes a small change in developments over Mexico to shift things further north.
Most forecast models currently see any overnight storms clearing and a mainly dry, cloudy day ahead with temperatures not rising too high.
Tomorrow again brings a risk of storms, and with the temperature rising to the mid/high twenties through the afternoon, the storm risk increases with it, fortunately they will be quite scattered so there is a 50/50 chance of catching one.
Sunday is currently looking like the worst day weather wise in the Austin area as the risk of storms continues overnight and into the morning, with no real signs of letting up through the day. Again they are expected to be scattered, but with more storm activity the chance of catching one, or even a series of storms, increases.
The weather forecast for Austin updates 4 times a day, so please keep checking for the latest information.
