Whether you'll be voting Nae or Aye on Thursday, how's the weather looking for popping down to the Polling Place?
UPDATE : Referendum day is half way through, and it turns out the weather may have an effect after all, as the Western Isles are shrouded in fog which isn't expected to clear any time soon, so a 'Plan B' may be called into action. Once the polling stations close at 10pm tonight, the original plan was to transport the ballot boxes from Barra to Eriskay by sea, then by road to Balivanich where they would join the Uist boxes and be flown to Stornoway. If the fog prevents the plane from flying, it's boat and road all the way, which will delay the declaration by around 3 hours until 5am.

Even the weather has 2 sides pushing and shoving up and down the UK. A high pressure away to the NE and a low to the far SW which is flinging up heavy, even thundery showers. Scotland is caught in between the two, in the easterly flow, which has already brought a lot of low cloud and murk, mainly to eastern Scotland. Gradually each day good breaks appear by the afternoon, more frequently in the west.
Referendum day follows this theme with another grey and murky start on Thursday. The cloud for eastern Scotland could be thick enough to bring light rain at times, which will extend into the Northern Isles. So anyone outside all day, canvassing in Fife or Angus could get a bit damp. Inland Scotland will be cloudy but dry and Western Scotland should see some brighter spells which will reach towards Inverness.
So no problematic weather, no storms or hoolies on the horizon. It is looking quiet enough, perhaps more grey in the east, brighter to the west and a light Easterly wind over the mainland. The weather won’t be inhibiting anyone getting out to vote.

Stornoway 16C and Lerwick 14C
Edinburgh 16C and Aberdeen 15C
Beyond Voting Day, it’s hard to tell ;) There could be a settled spell into the weekend as high pressure begins to take hold once more, or heavy thundery showers spreading up from the south. Uncertainty everywhere.

If you’ve had enough ‘information’ and just are waiting for it all to be over, one way or another, I’ll be on STV weather Thursday and Friday (for viewers in Scotland), with a cheery smile as we await the result.
