Just checking the sightings, looks like the forum on there gets deader each year.

It could be the "fad" effect..... ive seen it in many areas of life... great interest when something new comes on the scene, but people get bored and numbers fall away.

The biggest time ive seen this was with pop music quizes.... when they started in the mid 90's they took off, was heavily attended, pubs heaving, i could go to one nearly every day of the week. But soon they became passe .. ten years ago they were in steep decline and now i cant find one anywhere!

It's probably all migrated to social media sites...there was a weak display for NE England last night.

These seem to be NLCs, or perhaps cirrus.

I`m tempted to say legit .....In preparation for my stream last night i noticed there was an abundance of visible contrails which lasted well into twilight

here` mine from around 11pm

zoom in to see a similar structure to the one up North   I may be wrong but far to high up for me to be NLC`s

we`ll know when the 27ths Aim comes in

@Arnie Pie first off, thank you so much for your webcam, it certainly captures NCL's far sooner and more frequently than down 'ere in the SE.

With regard to the pic last night, I would agree with you. Having zoomed in to it there are no signs of NLCs on it, just very high and dispersed contrail or cirrus, that is based on my photograpy of NCLs and viewing opps in both the far NW and SE, so of course it is just my opinion be it right or wrong

I would say cirrus or contrail is likely, not 100% sure on those pics.

Too late last night to be of much use... but theres an interesting development at "ten too"... If those build (or have built) then we may have a low level sighting tonight... especially if youre in the North.

So when you read this chart are you predicting the "ten too" to head towards the UK?

How are you interperating these?

using the clock Arnie created...

The clouds orbit on a 5 day cycle...
so super impose a clock over the daisy chart..
1 day = 12 minutes
the daisy chart is 2 days late plus 12 hours from when the pic was taken... = 30 mins (12 + 12 = 6)
The display we can expect on the night the daisy is released is about noon/midnight/12.
so 3 days ahead the display we may get is at 30 mins = 12 mins = 42 mins before 12. Or nearly ten too..

The latest Aim released was for the 26th

which shows us what was in the skies for last Thursday night/ Friday morning

using the calculation Bob illustrated above, the NLC`s pictured from the Isle of Skye on Friday morning and reported at 'up to 10° altitude'

we can safely say that the pictures taken are represented, roughly, by the arrowed section of cloud

current_daisy26.thumb.png.6a839314c95997a7508ef8d477a57fdd.png

On a cautionary note; our method has only been developed during the Solar minimum ( the last few seasons)

Solar cycle 25 has started of Angry, which is and will,  increase the temperatures in the mesosphere

A colder temperature needed for the formation of Noctilucent clouds

the other vital ingredients are moisture/ dust particle...which looking at the latest Maarsy are abundant

Although it has not been proven that volcanic dust particles contribute to the formation of NLCs, the theory has not been ruled out either.  The effects of the massive volcanic eruption of Hunga Tonga-Hunga in January this year reached space.  Sorry, but can't do links but this is a good interesting read - Nasa Mission Finds Tonga Volcanic Eruption Effects Reached Space|NASA,  if anyone wants to Google it.

Yes Rob... the amount of NLC`s up there are fluctuating, although our Sun seems to have calmed down a fraction and the last daisy looks to be fuller

All we need now are some clear skies

Edit;  Maarsy`s on fire
