It has to be said, so far this year has been pretty poor ... and im away from Friday to next Friday, so my chances of seeing a fantastic displasy this year are low... i get back on the 9th, the latest ive seen them is the 14th...

Clear sky forecast and a decent-looking daisy. Fingers crossed!

Systems are back up

Here`s the back log from the weekend

Saturday 25-6-2022 was good for me, even catching a meteor on my time lapse

0321.thumb.JPG.2d317a7bf0af1d55fcda3a2a42971569.JPG

The display lasted overnight and up till dawn

1191.thumb.JPG.cafeeb17bb88616c08a63bb5e4870e16.JPG

I experimented with some Zoom work which shows some finer detail in an extended time lapse

Sunday night/ Monday morning yielded a picture with Saturn & Moon

This mornings brief display started around 2.30

At the peak of the last Solar Cycle 24 ( 2013- 2015 ) we didn't see a noctilucent cloud for 3 years

Not really expecting much from this season, I must admit to be pleasantly surprised.

I never had the optical technology back then, which is now the reason I`m seeing a lot more of the clouds, fainter all be them. (and of course one hell of a view)

The best ones I saw were in 2007/8 I didn't even know what they were at  time.. the first morning I saw them around 4am.. I just stood there thinking what am I looking at, They filled the sky. And the next few following mornings were the same. I will never forget it.

Great shot sorry Rob even from 2015

We`ve been looking out over the same piece of Northern sky for over 20 years now, the first time we spotted them our thought`s were it must have been something to do with the Aroura. what were these shiny clouds?

some years their good, other years unnoticeable

I believe that we`ve been spoilt rotten over the last 4 years with some spectacular displays and like all of Mother nature`s gems .. shouldn`t be taken for granted

Absolutely Arnie, When a good display is on show they are better than the Northern lights in my opinion to the naked eye and lense

As you say should not be taken for granted, it's just a shame many are not in touch with it! (Or be up to see it)

I've seen the Aurora twice naked eye from here can't remember the exact date, maybe November 87 I think was the best with red pillars moving.

December 21st 2015 a white/grey colour near the horizon,came out as this with 25secs exposure 3200 ISO.

Also see the same treeline ware I took the NLCs couple of weeks ago.

A higher ISO setting than I could have ever dare to use, to much LP, but the results are spectacular so i will remember these setting.

I`m guessing that I may have to get out of my ivory tower and join you land lovers down below for this bucket lister

As you know luck has to be on your side with the weather, and moon phases to get aurora etc.

Although I'm relatively lucky to be away from major cities. the local countryside is being chipped away year on year. And my town has more light pollution now than five years ago.

Not looking likely to be a break in the cloud any time soon

Shame a nice full daisy and they are now showing on the low latitude  eurocams
