Some great photos over the last couple of days.  Yesterday the sun appeared late lunchtime and I even managed to grab 30 minutes to walk outside, out of the chilly wind there was definite warmth in the sun and it felt marvellous.  What a difference that made to energy levels.  This morning there was too much cloud for a sunrise, although I noticed it was a sunny afternoon when managed a moment to look out of a window at work.  Current temperature is 8.7°C  after an overnight low of 1.0°C and a top temperature of 10.1°C at 14:00.  Wind currently from a WNW direction and 3.5mph.  Pressure 1029.6hPa falling slowly.  No rain has fallen since 11 January.

Just as an aside, my brother lives just to the sw of Boston and it looks like they’re in for a hell of a snowstorm this weekend, talk of 20+ inches so will try and post some photos if he sends any. May be the closest we get to seeing snow this winter!

Yes I was just reading about it after spotting a few US friends post about battening down the hatches on facebook.

Could be 60-80cms in the sweet spot apparently. Very envious, just imagine the excitement a few hours before you know it’s going to start. None of this will it be rain or snow, will it settle, will it miss us, will it all melt within an hour. Oh well, one day!

That’s one thing I love about Canada. When there’s a forecast of upsloping snows (the heaviest snows we get in the foothills).

Just as it starts, it gets dark,  and then sets in heavy snow hour after hour. The most we had in 18 hours was 67cm’s. Once in 90 minutes we had 15cm’s!

It’ll come one day for the SE. And when it does it’ll be epic. ❄️❄️❄️

I do remember watching the webcams in Kent with jealousy in 2009. This was up at blue bell hill, north Kent. Whiteout.

As winnie the pooh would say, its a rather blustery day today. Tomorrow night/monday morning could well be even more blustery here in the east. For now the sun is out, the washing is drying on the line and its reached 14c.

The gentle cirrus filled sky I posted this morning has now turned into an equally lovely but more angry sky full of cumulus scudding along on the brisk wind. At last, some variety in the weather.

I remember that Feb 2009 like it was yesterday. I was due to start my new job on that Monday morning. Gotnto the end of the road in Elmers End laughed. Buses cancelled and not a train rain on the Hayes line for the week. Its the anniversary this week Feb 2nd 2009. All my friends were in the pub in East Croydon having snowball fights knowing they weren't going to work on Monday morning

A more interesting and pleasant day today.  Sunny, mild, with scudding clouds and a blustery wind.  High of 13.3°C  between 2-3pm, after an overnight low of 8.8°C .  Currently 8°C  with 72% humidity.  Wind from WNW and 6mph with highest gusts today of 30mph - given that I've been reporting either zero readings or single digit wind speeds for weeks, it was quite exciting to see the tree branches actually moving with some energy.

Good also to see the revolting, fatherless, overweight pigeon population having to expend some effort to perch without moving for a change.  The annoyingly immoveable excrement factories strategically position themselves in teams, dotted carefully around every one of the large trees to create maximum pigeon poo coverage of the lawn and driving my disgusting dog into raptures in his haste to hoover clean the entire back garden     I have fond memories of living in rural Suffolk with a couple of shotguns to hand.  Whether it was to scare the pigeons or the RAF local helicopter gunship pervert pilots slowly rising from behind the hedges when my daughter and I were out in short shorts and bikini tops clearing the paddocks, they were jolly handy to see off all manner of unwanted flying pests.  I'd quite like them here to scare these enormous filthy feathered shitters off my land.  I run outside clapping hands and shouting at them to naff off.  They just smugly sit up there offering the equivalent gentle cooing response that clearly says "nah, swearing is not big or clever you".

Today's weather highlight: the 0.2mm of rain!  The first since 11th January.

High of 12.5 here today in Locksbottom and when the wind died down and the sun was out it really was very pleasant. Some daffs have been out for over a week now in sheltered south facing gardens in this area which is way ahead of schedule.Have a quick dive in mod thread just in the off chance of signs of colder weather but tbh next 10 days at least look hopeless for SE if you want to see snow.

As others have commented on have looked on with envy of the blizzard in New England.By the time the storm winds down in next few hours a few spots would have had 50-60cms of snow!!I would be quite happy to see just a couple cms this winter but that is looking unlikely the way this winter is unfolding??‍♂️!!

Lovely sky and clouds tonight. Went to Bexhill after dark event, all sorts going on acrobats, light displays and a parade.

A lovely sunny start to the day.

Interesting note is that Santon Downham recorded a high of 15c yesterday, but has woken up to a hard overnight frost with a low of -4c. An impressive difference considering it is January.

Late December in America and many people over there thought the same then look what happened, I know it's a different environment but it still says that anything can change in a short space of time

A drop of rain would be exciting at the moment ..but if something happens then brilliant ..but ..you can see really how it will play out...high will push north but it's touch and go where but timing will be be very late winter even spring ..obviously  ide love to  see snow ..but the sun here at moment is  so strong beautiful really ..but we have not had winter that hurts

Ps did anybody do the RSPB bird thing ...Friday.. so it won't count.. two red kites low circling tree height at West kingsdown

Very dry January, my driest since I’ve recorded since 2009 with a day to go. 6.5mm (avg 55mm) most of that was from a day of showers that came off the North Sea, so I’d expect further south east less than this.

December was a little wetter at 33.5mm (avg 60mm) half of this came on the night of the 9th again nothing compared to the 89mm December 2020…So first 14 days of February looks dry ish.

will we pay for all this come spring? I very much think we will
