Quite an impressive dry spell for the middle of winter. We've had no meaningful rain for more than 2 weeks, and it looks like we could be getting on for 4 weeks.

The shifting from very wet spells to very dry spells continues.

Well, with 59-days of winter having already gone (and nae a single flake of snow), one of these predictions has to come off. Eventually. Right?

Absolutely.

Still on 13.5mm of rain for the first 28 days of the month, which could be the final total, with the weekend also looking dry. A remarkably dry month, it has to be said.

Indeed, I also believe some of the later January drops were melting frost!!

Been busy since new year - not looked at charts etc.. but, where did this come from?

Next Friday, cold(er) blast with some wintryness for some parts of UK.  Outside reliable time frame yet so...

i just feel this winter has been a complete let down for cold, but there was so much potential.remember them amazing charts that were on show a week or two before xmas, only to come to nothing! it some it up really that many parts of the country enjoyed the coldest and most snow towards the end of november! we now have just 4 weeks remaining roughly..perhaps you could say 3 weeks because the next 7-10 days are showing nothing decent!

This is why this was the last time I would be looking at the charts in the model output thread during the winter, sometimes the people in that thread make it a battlefield into what THEY want to see which 90% never comes around. Spring is a more interesting time to me as it can be a battle between warmth and cold which makes the models more interesting imo depending what comes around.

Well I'm excited about the prospect of the low probability of seeing a bit of sleety rain at some point!

2022 finally looks like starting. Weather has been in hibernation this January.

I don't know what's worse, about January, waiting for snow that never comes or waiting for Spurs to make a half-decent new signing. And, before anyone makes the obvious response, I do usually see at least one thunderstorm between June and August 31!

Some lovely sunshine over London at the moment. Feeling relatively mild and pleasant, and the strength of the sun is notably higher than a month ago. Roll on spring!

We've been lurching from wet to dry and back for a number of years now. I don't know if this was any different to years ago, but it's certainly a notable feature of the last 10 years

Well, today's Metoffice monthly outlook certainly upgrades the cold for northern areas, but for the south, winter's over.....

There we have it.  I anticipate these warnings will occur again and be more widespread with the second plunge.

It's the new Covid name convention where all ancient alphabets are altered due to snow flakes  ❄️

I do know this because,  my wife speaks a fair few languages and she’s mentioned in the past that many a country have less letters in the alphabet that the English language has, well not the 26 we have for sure (its all about the four million words we have..Grammar * )  ...Anyway I’m pretty certain it’s not that short of the ....F,G H, l, j, k ,l yes that’s thrown me as well

Red alerts are ‘danger to life’.
