Milder and drizzly this morning, with no evidence of last night’s snowfall.

Same here, after the Man U game I did think about staying up, but when looking at the radar and Dp’s etc,  I knew it wouldn’t come to much

Glad I did now as I’m fresh for work.....

It was a nice wintry scene to go to bed to. I woke up an hour later and it was pouring with rain, so looks like I timed it right.

Onto the next chase. Some of the weekend’s showers may be wintry but I’d expect little or no accumulation away from the highest ground. Still nice and seasonal, though. Much preferable to mild winter weather which I find vile.

Thick fog here this morning.

So technically, the snow is still there.

It’s just a few feet above the ground rather than on it!

Love the ICON low resolution charts for a bit of weather porn. An absolute deluge of snow next Tuesday. It's nice to dream!

More realistically, Monday might bring another spell of transient snow for some, but in the day time.

Far from boring eh, even if we're in a predominantly positive NAO state. Give me potential knife edge snow events over a dominant azores high and 12C!

Very similar to last winter, which brought about a dozen snowfalls here and over 30 days of snow cover. It's just started earlier this time!

Ironically, more significant cold brings less snow here.

It's a shame the airmass this weekend won't be just a little bit colder as there'll be a lot of showers piling in from the North West. I suppose some wintriness is possible to lower levels in any heavy or prolonged showers but I'd expect little if any snow away from the highest ground.

Is that a bit of a streamer event developing? Like you say, too bad 850s won't be cold enough

@MattStoke The 12z is an improvement for Mondays transient snow event! Would be nice to see that cold pool over Scandinavia just edge a little closer!

Some of the models do bring a slightly greater chance of sleet and snow pushing in from the east during Sunday.

I'm seeing a few potential (mostly transient) snow risks next week as frontal systems move from west to east across the UK in fairly cold air, and wintry showers in between. This very messy setup is the sort that always seems to deliver snow to my location. It brought a lot of snowfalls last winter.

Yeah, last winter was great for us! We had a fair few snow days. I think 28th Dec was my favourite. Snowed really heavily all morning, ended up with about 14-15cm of snow that day and it stuck around for a bit too.

This is the best setup as mentioned for the Midlands and did deliver last year with nearly 30 days of falling snow somewhere in Solihull (where I was last winter).

 ECM for Next Friday

I know it’s just for fun, but how many times in December we see any potential, not often

The end of November was Coolio but could December be

Just having a ramping moment

This is not a bad start to December, yes we have seen better but recent years have been a let down. Hope it continues!

Similar to the GFS 12z, the latest ICON ‘squeezes out’ the higher upper air temperatures on Monday, and subsequently increases the snow risk.

GFS 18z increases the snow amounts for the north of the region. Depends on how quickly the fronts occlude.

Yes that the best atm, tomorrow’s another day, more Modelling watching tomz

Good morning all! Sun-up and it’s +1.3. I guess this is the ‘mild’ spell we were promised!

Leaving aside that the models are all over the shop at present, I’m finding that there’s a growing disconnection between predicted weather and what actually occurs. For whatever reason, the earth feels colder than recent winter starts and falling snow is settling quicker and staying longer.

Could be an interesting next few months!

Maybe a localised dusting in the north/ east of the region from this little feature late tonight/early tomorrow. It’s shown up on a few model runs.
