A good morning to ya all

With a new month marking the start of Winter for many (and a month closer to Christmas), a new regional Midlands chat thread to go along with it.

Though, for some, Winter may have felt as though it started last weekend, as lots of us were greeted to the white stuff! ❄️

Hopefully many more surprises to come for us this Winter, no matter what weather you’re after. And, as some discussed in the previous thread, another snowy spell could be on the way for tomorrow morning, although it seems quite hit and miss on the models at the moment. Latest 00Z GFS, for example, keeps it dry for the most part over our region, while the latest ICON still keeps bit of a feature, albeit mostly over the Western side of the Midlands:

So probably a radar, window and lamp-posting watching situation.

Always further opportunities throughout the season if not ??

Please feel free to continue your discussions of the weather in here. Thanks a lot all

If going purely by the Met Office 3 monthly contingency planner, it seems that this may be another milder than average winter but with several short live cold spells. Similar to last winter, which was one of the snowiest I've ever seen (partly due to growing up in London) but was milder than average. I'd take that again! It was a very fun winter here! (Weather wise).

Albeit far from boring at the moment with the potential for a marginal snowfall event overnight tonight (although id say wintry mix is more appropriate if im honest) those charts are pretty ugly from a cold lovers point of view this morning, with a prominent azores high and easterly polar vortex dominating with little reprieve. Lots of change in temperature but i really do think we'll have a reasonable amount of atlantic dross for the next couple of weeks before any more substantial blocking over Scandinavia can influence our weather. A bit meh this morning on that front, but winter has only just begun! And its not a complete game over but i wish that azores high could bugger off or move further north

Horrible day weather wise. Very windy and torrential cold rain. Can't see snow for the Midlands except maybe the Derbyshire region on higher ground tomorrow. Models are volatile but remove any real snow prospects for at least the next 2 weeks. But after the snow last week feel kind of easy about it and just waiting for our next opportunity.

ICON with a snow to rain event on Friday. Looks to be on its own against the rest of the model suite, though.

Tbh Matt I don't get why people would want that. If it's going Snow we want a decent 4 to 6 inches that remains for several weeks. I don't see the point of Snow if it goes within a few hours or is less than 4 inches at least.

Horrible day today once the showers got going, you could see the cold air being pushed down as the clouds formed mammatus ahead of the precipitation.

Just goes to show that all the wrist slitting in the MOD thread is just blinkered as to what might actually happen

Spot on!  Too much slavish obsessing over models that have gone haywire.

-2.6 here and a light dusting. Very wintry.

Just when it looked like it might have been a dry night, and yet here as well, there is a little covering of snow outside

Feels like sometimes the models original predictions can ironically turn out to be closer to the mark.

Ooops. Look like we got unlucky this time. Just a clear frosty morning.

But after last weekend, I don't mind.

Good to see a few surprise dustings around this morning.
