Last couple days have been clones of each other.

Dire Aberdeenshire Permagloom™ (with drizzle off and on) until late afternoon when things brightened a bit.

Even got a nice sunset yesterday evening...

rrfg.thumb.jpg.a1de45aefb1ddf6607119f5bac035672.jpg

Calm to light winds.

Temperature again a feature with minimal diurnal range over the last 48 hours (low of 12.9c, max of 13.8c).

Surrounding fields sounding a bit like Waterloo the last few days, apparently large cull of geese ongoing according to the gossip on the local social media feeds.

The focus today is on cloud cover, which has flipped from the permanent thick overcast of the last week to well broken cloud scudding in from the west and resulting in highly variable periods of sunshine and cloudiness.

High temperature today was 11.8⁰C at midnight dropping to a low of 8.6⁰C at 04:58 and back up to 11.4⁰C now, humidity is 73%, wind 2 to 15mph westerly, pressure is 991.2hPa falling slowly, there’s been 0.4mm of rain today and 2.2mm in the last 24 hours, and cloud cover varies from 2/8 to 6/8 in next to no time.

Cooler fresher start to the day at 11c  .Fine breezy sunny afternoon allowed the last cut of domestic grasses.   Presume its a cold front came across the Firth from the NW 20 minutes ago and its now raining. Dry washing rescued just before it started.  Obviously going to turn a lot colder as can see sleet and snow  on the radar over the mountains and in the small showers following the front

Sleet now showing up on the radar on low ground up here .Temperature has fallen 3c in last twenty minutes.  Hills should look wintry in the morning

First taste of winter after what has felt like a long summer. How common is October snow where you are and is it any less frequent than it used to be? I know snow in late Spring in northern Scotland isn’t unusual - I’d imagine more common than October. South of Aberdeen snow in October is fairly rare - maybe once in every 5-10 years or so with the first snowfalls normally occurring in latter part of November.

Always liked to have tatties up b 20th October and wheat sown as that was about the time we would normally expect a -2c or  lower frost.None so far this year.Less likely to see snow so early and not less frequent than 50 years ago with mid November normal for first snowfall.Liked to have store of neeps up by 20th November over the years to beat the snow.

We have been up here for 5 years and not had snow on the ground at our level but usually higher hills get a few coverings.  We have had snow on the ground the last three May's with over 4 inches on the 6/7th this year.  Northern Lights will have a better idea of longer averages I am sure.

Lovely bright sunny day up until late afternoon, which allowed me to get some jobs done in the garden. Never exactly felt mild though as there was a very stiff breeze most of the time. Cloud and rain moved in quickly just before dark and the temp has dropped off from around 10C at 5pm to 2.8C now.

Finally got the kids to play outside for a bit thanks to the sunny afternoon.

All change around teatime, as others have noted, with the cold front moving through from the NW.

Not much rain of it but impressive temperature drop from 9.4c at 5pm to the current 3.1c.

Another 2kg of Blackberries today, been a good crop this year, though everyone getting sick of them!

Snowing in Braemar now though light. Just up the road a bit the camera shows a little in the air. Here cooler this evening with some rain which looks a bit sleety though probably just my imagination!

A slightly odd day due to having a sunrise, seemingly, at 6pm. Photo taken at teatime looking east. Meanwhile, looking west, the sky was a heavily overcast dark grey.

Highest temperature was 12.1⁰C at 14:22, humidity got down to 72% at 14:23, pressure sank to 988.5hPa at 22:01, 1.8mm of rain fell today and 3.2mm in the last 24 hours.

Evening all, fairly sharp drop in temperature here too, 11c at 5pm but now just 5c here with a stiff wind blowing the rain about.

From a high just after midnight of 14.5c, which then dropped to 6.8c at 6:44am, the temperature never quite recovered in daylight hours, only reaching 12.7c at midday and it’s fallen away quickly since sunset, currently 2.9c. Quite a bit of sunshine in Stonehaven today which definitely cheered me up compared to what we’ve seen over the last couple of days.

Second frost day of the season and everything is clear overhead and crisp underfoot. My kind of autumn day.

Temperature currently up to 3.8⁰C from a minimum of -1.3⁰C at 04:48, humidity is 95%, wind 1 to 5mph northwesterly, pressure is 1007.9hPa and rocketing upwards, there’s been no rain today and cloud cover is 0/8.

As I opened the curtains in the kitchen to take the photo, the twenty rooks I wanted to photograph took off in fright leaving only the two short-sighted specimens you can see, still warming themselves in the morning sun. Maybe I should have put some clothes on.

Temp got down to 3.5c overnight so no frost, but a dusting of white stuff on the Black Cuillin. A nippy wind oot bye and some squally but light showers thrown in for good measure. Winter is here, briefly, before we head back into double figure temps and a lot of rain and wind! No change there then!

Second air frost here too at -0.5C. Beautiful sun all day now though and a nippy wind blowing leaves around.

Lovely.
