Heaviest frost yet! Took forever to get the car defrosted and, as it's a piece of crap, there was more ice inside it than outside it!

Absolutely beautiful out there with unbroken sunshine, calm conditions and hoar frost coating everything.

That includes the utterly lethal hard surfaces covered in a few mm's of pristine, clear solid ice from the rain showers earlier in the week, been a while since ground conditions were this difficult.

Impressively cold outside still at -6.4c, though forecast is for a rapid change to milder wet weather overnight.

Freezing cold and clammy - overcast and slightly foggy at -1C. Not ideal for anything or anyone really, apart from climate change deniers perhaps?

-5.3C overnight, sixteenth air frost, already! Everything was wet after yesterday so a true hard crunchy frost.

Freezing fog here all day. I never feel cold much but this morning in Jedburgh I was chilled to the bone, and the husband's angina came back - after 3 heart attacks and a triple bypass he says he just canny believe it. I'm telling him the fog itself is lethal nevermind the cold.

I saw -8c in Alford and -6C in Westhill, with nothing any higher in between, on this morning's commute (after spending 10mins trying to clear a thick frost off the car windows) . Too busy to notice what kind of day it was, but the commute home was pretty much all sub zero too. In fact, just looking at various weather stations around Alford it was an ice day (so far), or damn close to it, on most.  Roads much less icy than yesterday though despite it being colder.

Could be interesting again in the morning if the forecast rain moves in overnight. Will have to warm up quickly, and even then the ground will still be very cold.

Some torrential rain showers earlier this evening making driving even more entertaining when combined with patches of ice that seem immune to the thaw.

Currently 3c with light winds.

On different tack, the ongoing house hunt delivered this gem of a property advert to the inbox.  First photos seem okay, if a bit messy.  By number 5 you start to wonder what is going on -  then number 9 reveals all, who wouldn't want a dead pigeon in their bathroom...

And people pay estate agents for this kind of atrocious marketing!

It was an absolute disgrace.

Anyway, been an ice day here again too, with fog coming and going. Down to -4C just now.

Lovely day in NE Fife, plenty of sunshine. Cold start at -1c in Pittenweem, -4c Leuchars. Warmed up to just above freezing this afternoon but the temperature has risen in the last couple of hours, now 5c in a strengthening SEly wind.

Mirrored a bit here. Went to see Napoleon at the cinema this afternoon. Was -1C when we went in but over 1C when we came out and now 3.0C with a freshening breeze. The ground and even the road and pavements still look frosty and icy though.

No air frost last night, but 1C and a developing southerly down the Tweed valley, which amplifies it quite a bit, meant it was bloody freezing!  Snow level at dawn around 400m, so white tops just now and with heavy rain later the river system is going to busy.

Off to see an, old agri college pal south of Aberdeen yesterday and as we approached Aberdeen you could see snow showers over the north sea . Some made landfall where we were and it remained cold and frosty. High cloud  was approaching from the west bit remained cold all the way home to 10.00pm. I felt the cold was putting up a bit of a fight so would not be surprised to see it back fairly soon ,Still icy today but wet surface breezy and 5c

Cool, windy and dull with rain blowing through. 5C with strong South Easterly so feeling cold. Rain to get heavier and more persistent this afternoon.

A less than easy commute home in awful weather just now. Windy, 5C, pitch black, heavy rain, lots of surface water, including the A944 fully submerged in a couple of the usual places. At least the ice has gone from the driveway, which is about the only positive I can think of.

Similar down here. Horrible day with heavy rain on and off and strong SEly winds. Bring back the cold!

Just don't go outside right now. That's all I can say. Tried it earlier with the dugs. Total pack agreement to cut the walk short and head home within 10 mins of battered raw faces.

Awful flooding at east end of Sauchen straight and on way into dunecht at 11pm-4x4 barely got through.  Do wonder if the ordhead-cluny detour (to bypass the Sauchen a944 flooding) will be open for much longer.  Rain supposed to stop in next couple hours, any longer and some very serious flooding is going to happen.

Meanwhile it was a met yellow warning when in reality it justified a amber considering the atrocious road conditions.

As you can gather a truly minging day with some torrential rain, especially in evening accompanied by strong se winds.  The 7c car was recording this evening highest temperature for the day, and indeed for quite some time.

Totally agree re the met warning - why on earth this wasn’t upgraded to Amber is beyond me. A truly horrendous night of weather in the north east  - numerous roads flooded and reports of cars aquaplaning and off the road even on main arteries like the A96.

No fieldwork today as frost still coming out so surface very muddy and sticky. Started off with patchy cloud. 5c but ground cold enough for a patchy ground frost and even thin fresh ice on some puddles. Load of concentrate feed blown in this afternoon. First calf inside with pneumonia so off to vets for a shot for it In spite of being vaccinated this terrible wet humid frosty weather gives the lungs a very hard time.

Closing this thread as getting a bit too long.
