Reached the dizzy heights of 21c, whats the record for October?

Whilst many places reached 21C today it was nowhere near the 29.9C (85.8F) record set by Gravesend on the 1st Oct 2011, which beat the previous record set by Cambridge on 1st Oct 1985. But note both of those records were set on the first day of October.

A new record is set for the highest temperature recorded in October - at 29.9C (85.8F)

Today's temps pretty good for the 19th and I think for many it's been a lovely afternoon. Here's the ITV Anglia Weather summary of today's temps around the Region, plus a storm warning for early tomorrow.

17.3c here at 6am, not particularly windy but what we had was very warm, despite the cloud.  Did a mad dash around with vacuum at 7:30 with doors and windows open as it was touching 18c and felt as hot as on the few hot days in July/August.  Max temp was 20.4c between 12:30 and 3:30 despite wind picking up to more than 30mph gusts.  Weather station  also recording poor wind chill and high heat index readings.   Currently 18c with 87% humidity and very warm SW wind fluctuating between 19 and 23mph.

Pressure is 1007.6hPa falling slowly.  No rain has fallen in the last 24 hours, although MetO app on phone saying I've got heavy rain now and through to 11pm.  Also have the yellow warning for thunderstorms, heavy rain and very gusty winds that may cause disruption tomorrow between 4am and midday.

Edited by Soaring Hawk
Apologies to MetO, just as I posted it started raining.

do you remember the 87 storm  ? feels like it did that night ,but not only is the the low picking up warm air ,if you look at sat loops, something is throwing even hotter air up west coast of Africa, which is then  being picked up by the said low pressure

A very soggy night, particularly in the SE corner. Here's what the radar was showing at 03.50:

1034059925_Radar20Oct03_50.thumb.jpg.8a1bd12e58ee4fec4e6e2a6791feb231.jpg

The latest radar shows a line of heavy showers with a few embedded storms heading towards the Region for later this morning. The north of the Region most at risk from these. Radar at 07.10:

1496924990_Radar20Oct07_10.thumb.jpg.75e09a09a7dd59a9c2d72b71dca779cb.jpg

And then later this evening and into the small hours of Thurs a small area of low pressure moves along the South Coast to bring more heavy rain to the south of the Region.

GFS pressure 23.00: 883943880_GFSPressure20Oct23_00.thumb.GIF.7c5eca99523cfbc09afb2d6de60d42b3.GIF Arpege rainfall midnight: 284874290_Arpege20Octmidnight.thumb.png.f0517299e615f09207e72994e1fcf329.png

So a bit of a 'something for everyone' sort of day!

Some bursts of heavy rain this morning, although the torrential band petered out as soon as it crossed into Norfolk earlier. Another hour or so and it looks like stopping.

Slightly confused by that met office thunderstorm warning which has now finished but there are more showers now than earlier.

You can see how strong the upper winds are by how elongated the showers are on the radar.

These showers are mixing the pretty strong winds above down to the surface. Not just under them but also around them. You can actually see the wind gusts pick up as they move by or over you.

Windy here, with a few rumbles from a passing cell to the west rapidly moving north, seems to have died off now but am heading in that direction for an appointment so will probably get there too late.

One or two heavy showers mostly to the south, quite hit and miss judging by the whole dry road/wet road scenario between Watton and Dereham.

22mm overnight, much appreciated here.

There must be a sign above Halesworth. All storm must not enter here. Divert around and continue on 2 miles outside of the town borders, thank you for your cooperation. Was watching the large blobs on the radar get closer and closer, looked to be a direct dumping, but no, clouds dispersed around us and we got nothing.

Not a lot of electrical activity at the moment but the rain looks like it’s about to get heavy for most of us!

It certainly does.

Imagine if it was mid winter with this system coming into really cold air.

Three peels of shotgun thunder and c.c illuminations.
