Beautiful sunny morning, after the deluge. Certainly been some very heavy rain, some of those showers yesterday, were biblical. Have a good day all.

I don't normally get wakened up by rain but that rain this morning really was banging hard outside and woke me up, I wasn't annoyed but sleep is important

Just checked the BBC app thingy: aye, 'light rain showers'!

Same, at 6am it said light showers and a moderate breeze. Left the house and it was more of a monsoon

Surely that level of rain received warranted a warning?? The other companies like meteo had warnings out for early hours rain?

Certainly should have been Met Office warning. 36mm in St James Park between 00z and 06z. Serious deluge.

Their warning system will always be a mystery to me.

Heavy although short spell of rain at 03:30 Bit noisy with the SSW wind hurling rain at the bedroom window.  Pressure had dropped to 997.0

Max temperature here today 15C at 15:23.  Currently 10C and humidity is 85%

Wind: currently 13mph with average speed over 2 minutes = 10.2, over 10 minutes = 11.8mph.  Wind had picked up from 10:30 to 11:00 with highest recorded 34.00 mph at 17:30 and gradually reducing through the evening.

Pressure: 1007.7hPa rising rapidly

Weather highlight today: mix of sun and cloud but with very light spots of rain so not a bad day to be out on site, until the wind picked up after lunch and I had to chase my hard hat across a car park ..

Dreary start here in Suffolk, with drizzle and a gusty wind. Hopefully the area of rain responsible will quickly clear away SE and let the sun break through later.

I'm looking forward to the up-coming settled spell, with maybe the first widespread morning fog of the autumn this coming weekend as the Region ends up in a very slack area of pressure between the high to our west and to our east, so little in the way of breeze. The GFS 500hPa forecast for Sunday illustrates this nicely:

Lastly, for the record, the hi res radar calculations of where the heaviest rain fell in the Region on Tues morning and which caused the flooding in London and Clacton in Essex.

It's a cracking sunny start here, chilly 10c and not a cloud.

Lol. Yes, it isn't dreary at all in the SE corner!

It's been one of the days where the met office predicted a day of full sun for us which turned out to be a whole afternoon of grey skies. Very disappointing. Looking at the satellite radar, the big wave of grey cloud moved east early on but then decided to stay around for the whole day and ruin the sunshine. Looks like it was nice in London though?

Been a dull grey and windy day here, after a night of gusty winds. Winds slowly easing now, which could mean a chilly night ahead, 13c top temp today, not sure where these warmer temps from the south are coming, but a bit more sunshine would be nice.

Have to agree with @SunSean above. The forecasts of the cloud clearing east were a tad too optimistic with regard timing and it stayed grey until late afternoon here.

Lovely end to the day though, as darkness approached the mist was forming over the fields and the sunset was lovely. Just as well the sheep have a good overcoat on as the temp will be down to single figures tonight.

Gusty winds overnight interrupted sleep again  although missed the cloud that gave others a dreary start to the day.  Max temperature here 17C at 14:49 but felt chillier due to the wind. Currently 12C, with humidity at 81%

Wind dropped significantly all of a sudden at 17:00, remaining between 6 and 0mph. Both 2 and 10 averages report 0.0mph. Will be interesting to see what the overnight low will be.

Pressure: 1023.1hPa rising slowly

No rain has fallen in the last 24 hours.

Today's weather highlight was the beautiful sunset, although unfortunately was driving and unable to pull over and photograph it.

So dull today and my mouse wrist is feeling cold in the t-shirt I optimistically put on this morning after the forecasts of 20c. What a waste of a  southerly airflow

Fantastic pics of cloud iridescence scrat. Thanks for sharing.

A nice simple explanation from NOAA who call them "rainbow clouds":

"But have you ever seen a rainbow cloud? This can happen because of something called cloud iridescence. It usually happens in altocumulus, cirrocumulus, lenticular and cirrus clouds. Iridescent clouds happen because of diffraction – a phenomenon that occurs when small water droplets or small ice crystals scatter the sun's light."
