Wet and windy for the Region later today but particularly bad for the SE corner. A secondary feature forms at the base of the mother Low and tracks from the Isle of Wight up into EA before losing its identity.

Feature at 19.00  891633576_Euro4500hPa02Oct19_00.thumb.png.cadce1e11aa08c339105a7725c17763c.png

Windy for most from mid-afternoon, with the strongest wind gusts occurring along the South Coast to the east of the feature with gusts of >100km/h  (>60mph) in the early evening.

Gusts at 16.00 1786812614_Euro4gusts02Oct16_00.thumb.png.59c69b4f6d1fd2ebe3d98f40dc8abf41.png 19.00 731290242_Euro4gusts02Oct19_00.thumb.png.92a56e060fb98c0a7ab0ccb421a1ef58.png

Rainfall at 19.00 2005537441_Euro4precip02Oct19_00.thumb.png.105c4ddd7e70b16b75970a6f122abb00.png

Chilly 7c at 7am this morning, risen slightly to 10c now and weirdly not a breath of wind considering we have a warning for wind/rain from 1pm.  Assuming its still a way out west.

Edit: 20 mins later, slight breeze has begun, can see the washing moving a bit on the line.

Amazing rainbow yesterday after quite a downpour. Shame it'll be nothing like that today. Gloomy windy rain this afternoon.

Damp but not that breezy thanks to being far enough away from that secondary low.

September stats in and unsurprisingly it has come out as better than the August effort…

Temperatures well above normal, generally slightly drier and sunnier than average (The rainfall dependent on that single very wet day where some saw close to the months worth of rain on that occasion.).

For Peterborough, the high was 29.7c on the 7th and was slightly drier than average and quite sunny. Worth noting the sunshine amounts were close to zero for many locations up to the 5th.

Looks like some stormy weather incoming for the SE. Winds likely between 40-60 mph depending on inland or exposed.

Whats surprised me is the last two forecasts on NW homepage haven’t mentioned specific wind speed forecasts at all. Had to go to the met office to find out.  Wonder if this is intentional? ?‍♂️

Wind has now definitely picked up by not particularly strong yet, rain has just arrived, still light at the moment and Ive given in and put the heating on! Usually like to wait until nearer November but my son is feeling cold and a sore throat and must admit Im not feeling the greatest, temp in house was 14c so upped the thermometer to 18c.

The weather has claimed Rock The Moor near Maidenhead with is a big 80s festival, which was cancelled at 9am a couple of hours before the gates were due to open. It had been postponed twice in the last 18 months due to Covid.  I go every year and was looking forward to some live music as I haven't been to a festival for so long - but that's the issues with moving an outdoor event to October - the weather is so unpredictable.

..and the heating has just come on!

I'm in the centre of London. Last time I visited in July 2019 it poured down... ditto today. Miserable.

Really very wet here - showing 23mm on the garden gauge but hardly any wind now - highest gust was about midday

wind is constantly gusting here with the rain almost going sideways, it's like we got our own little tropical storm

Yes our very little own tropical storm, not really the height of it yet, actually looking forward to strong wind gusts

25.7mm so far but looks like the heaviest rain has passed over here now.

Is the secondary feature you referred to this morning @Blessed Weather?

Pressure still dropping, down to 986.4 hPa now.

I'll have to venture out to the gauge in the garden soon, automatic is on 15.5 mm.

Positively grim out there and wind is still off its rocker.

At the moment each strong gust is stronger than the last one. Don't know the speeds, weather station I use is probably far higher than the met, if not expect highest gust in the 80s next hour. Yep I agree unlikely.

Hi lottie. No, I've circled the feature in purple on your screen grab. Now north of the Isle of Wight and heading into EA as a weakening feature:

1076872844_Feature02Oct.thumb.jpg.72c7901a17e5f3728c677407795af38f.jpg

Wind hasn't been so bad here, but I'm 20 miles inland, with the strongest winds restricted to the coastal strip.

And forgive me as not really Regional, but an opportunity for me to post one of my favourite images, the water vapour view from the satellite used by the Icelandic met office. Look at all that clear, colder air behind the cold front plunging down the Atlantic to the west of the UK:
