Heard gentle rain outside the window after checking the radar a while ago with it being dry here & I see a little cell/storm has developed just next 2 us. I’m expecting the rain 2 become torrential any second now!

It's a little higher up in herts right now stretching to the edge of London

That's the storm over - was a pretty decent one! Some bright lightning at times and some very deep booms. I'm a happy bunny!

shortly after posting that, I realised it was just a little bit further north so only ended up getting heavy for a couple of minutes and then slowly petered out

Had some rumbles of thunder early this morning which progressed with 20  seconds of heavy rain then back to a few more bits of rumbling before it departure. Then when I fell back to sleep again, I had a dream of chasing severe thunderstorms here in the UK with me having my phone and sprinting to an open area to capture and record them

Someone I know got this in Bedfordshire, all credit to them.

Also, just found these pictures from June that show a nice storm structure to one of the imports, fluffy top it looks like.

Mum in Herne Bay said they had a wicked storm this morning

I'll have to check if webcam motion detected anything but was watching it flash away on the live feed.

Out of the area at the moment but 46.4 mm of rain fell, highest I've recorded since I set up the station in Jan 2020. 34.9 mm of that within an hour from 0436z to 0536z.

Gave a bit of flooding at the station.

Heard things about roads being flooded too which is hardly surprising.

This mornings storm was a cracker here in Faversham. It didn’t look like much looking at blitzortung but the power of it was huge. We had shotgun thunder and the house shook with every rumble after that. It sounded like someone was kicking in the front door. We very rarely have storms like that. The last one I can remember with that kind of power was back in 2012 one lunch time. It’s usually a few flashes and rumbles but this thing was meaty. It certainly packed a punch! A village close by has lost its internet from multiple providers so I’m guessing their routers have fried. I was already up at 4am with one of the kids and just as I was getting weary and wishing I was asleep that little beast rolled in so it was all good

Maybe except I wouldn't be shouting all over the place when I see a tornado unlike him who can't let people watch something in peace. I much prefer Pecos Hank who let's people view what he is recording and does very little speaking.

Hard to believe that last night was the first night-time thunderstorm of the year here, in late August.

There was a nighttime storm that came nearby at the beginning of October in 2013 when I lived in Wiltshire so its not that unusual to still have storms in August.

Its quite common to have storms in August actually.

Lots of action directly to the South of us with plenty of sky flashes and rumbles

Caught a brilliant flash, which seemed very close, ... but no thunder

I have seen this before although I've never really understood how this occurs?

Quite agree. But by this stage I would have expected one or more night-time plume thunderstorms, especially in July. We didn't get any here.

At night you can see lightning from 100s of miles away if your vantage point is good enough.

Also it could be anvil lightning right at the top of the storm, the anvils can stretch a very long way from the storm core - an effect greatened by it being night.

A few weeks ago on a Friday afternoon I was under an anvil from a storm whose core was over 25 miles away.

Lovely line down the country, from Metoffice radar. The showers look quite beefy.

Currently in the firing line now. Including this mornings thunderstorm, we’ve had quite a bit of rain today.

My video of last night's thunderstorm over Northamptonshire, UK.⛈⚡

During the early hours of Sunday 22 August 2021 A band of heavy showers with some embedded thunderstorms moved into Northamptonshire from the south west. This storm brought a nice light show with quite a few bright flashes of lightning and a couple decent rumbles of thunder.
