Just heard the loudest bang of thunder ever in my life, absolutely scared the lenticulars out of me.  Couple of screams outside.  Well I never.

Directly in the firing line of that storm coming over from Matlock way, looks like a potent little cell has gone straight over my house as well

More or less passed right over us. Quite a few rumbles and a few IC flashes.....nothing visible though

Yeah I have the webcam on now and that what is on the camera at the moment is probably what will have just passed us in Chesterfield going in a NE direction. The camera faces towards the S/SE I think

I'm praying the storms in the Peterborough/Cambridge area head this way.

It's gonna be close - or they'll die long before reaching here.

I can see it on the radar, just to the south of where I am.  I'm not too keen on thunderstorms so you're welcome to it!

I was whiskers away from jumping into my car and chasing it, but it looks as if it would outrun me. Rush hour traffic I feared would hinder my efforts! Good luck, hopefully it maintains its intensity. Getting some very strong outflow from it, and the anvil is huge, covering my location. There’s more to come this evening in my opinion however. Sit tight. That lot over brum is In a very highly sheared environment, and looks more discrete.

This lot over the Goyt is more thundery-rain with the occasional rumble every minute or two, still it's better than nothing so can't complain.

is there a scientific reason a town can get absolutely nothing but always miss storms a few miles in every direction. 4 times today already we had storms approach us directly, die as soon as they get close, and then rebuild and intensify once they have moved away from the area and 16 separate storms have missed us within 20 miles....any reason for that? If there is then at least I know that there is a proper reason and I know next time we will actually repel them....

Not really, it just takes a lot to get a really direct hit. You've had thunder around you today, at a distance. So have we in Sheffield. Had I stayed put today I'd have heard a couple of rumbles. Instead, I've pretty much done a lap of the outskirts today and caught four separate thunderstorms and seen some CGs, too. None particularly close, mind!

Back in May we got a true direct hit here with intense lightning and severe hail, and it was the first time in years that we'd copped it like that.
