I was reminded by this that this Saturday (3rd Oct) a year ago was (prov) he wettest day on record, UK-wide, with an average of 31.7mm falling across the entire UK. I don't think that we shall get near this figure today but the rainfall is obviously persistent and widespread

Ditto, roughly 5 rumbles here. Some good cloud formations too.

I had a weird predictive dream last night, I dreamt about getting wet walking along a main street surrounded by historic buildings, then leaving and watching lightning from a Cb cell to the south-east.

The real life version wasn't quite as spectacular, but I went shopping in M&S in Lincoln, came out and it was chucking it down with rain, so had to wait a while before going outside, and then when I was walking home, I definitely heard one clap of thunder from a Cb cell to the south-east.  It was just the one clap of thunder, and it wasn't picked up by the ATD system, and I saw no lightning, but it counts as another day of thunder heard, taking my 2021 total to 15 days.

Friend mentioned that this cell in Southampton had shotgun thunder and large hail that set off car alarms with it.

A couple of flashes of lightning and rumbles of thunder around 3.30 this morning after heavy rain.

There appear to be some sharp showers around the Isles of Scilly currently, with the Met Office's lightning radar having detected one or two strikes around 0700 in The Channel south of Devon.

Sorry for the late reply but I'd like to report on some convective activity close to the UK on Sat September 4th, observed from a flight from Luton to Thessaloniki.

On the ground this day was hazy, with some brightness in south Hampshire but increasingly cloudy or dull in the London area. Not thundery though warmer and hazier than it had been recently.

However, on clearing the low cloud after take off I noticed a cluster of fairly large Cbs visible to the south, perhaps over northern France but cannot be sure. Through much of the flight, right to the Alpine region, there were frequent Cbs visible to the southwest. The flight presumably took an unusual easterly path as the Alps covered only a limited north-south extent when it crossed over them, so I'm guessing it went well east over Austria/Slovenia not far from Vienna. I do remember it seemed to take an age to reach the Alps, which are normally reached within an hour of take-off. Perhaps this thundery activity forced the flight on its easterly path?

I do recall that there was a breakdown forecast originally for that weekend, which was then pushed back to later in the week so perhaps these Cbs were associated with the original breakdown?

Saw this bubbly cumulus cloud whilst on a walk due to the showers we’ve had here today.

There was another to the left of that one but didn’t have a good view to take a decent pic

This shot is from end of October 2004, not one of my best as it's mostly blown out.

About half 2 it looked like night time, had torrential rain, saw 3 bright flashes and had a few decent cracks of thunder before it headed out Buxton way.  I wasn't expecting that.
