Got to laugh , heard a few rumbles of distant thunder coming from the south then all activity stopped over the wigan area ,  only for it to reactivate as it moved out of this area ,  this can be seen on bliztortung,  a gap of X's over the wigan area         so just a handful  of distant rumbles here then ,

damp squib

Just a few moderate showers now, not expecting owt tomorrow or at all this year anymore. It’s been a good year for storms here though, had about ten.

Looks like the best of it has passed over now, it was fun whilst it lasted albeit brief, just walked the dog and it is very still and very muggy out,

Day 1 Convective Outlook

VALID 06:00 UTC Fri 10 Sep 2021 - 05:59 UTC Sat 11 Sep 2021

ISSUED 06:38 UTC Fri 10 Sep 2021

ISSUED BY: Dan

Upper trough over the UK/Ireland on Friday will relax northeastwards, but still overhead during the day to provide the potential for showers. As was the case on Thursday, this will be complicated somewhat by areas of cloud and showery rain which could both inhibit surface heating at times, but also likely break up into scattered showers as the day progresses. In either case, cool air aloft with surface heating will likely yield 300-700 J/kg MLCAPE with the potential for numerous showers to develop across central/eastern/northern portions of both Britain and Ireland in particular. The steepest mid-level lapse rates will be over eastern Britain at midday, eventually shifting to the North Sea through the afternoon, but nonetheless a few thunderstorms will be possible - especially from the Pennines across to the E / NE England. Shear for the most part will be rather weak, and so showers/storms may tend to be pulse-type in nature but could still produce some local surface water flooding, alongside gusty winds and some hail. Activity will tend to decay during the evening hours.

Forecast Details

Upper trough will slowly lift NE across the UK on Friday, with surface low centred over the north of Ireland at 06z moving NE across Scotland during the day, centred over the North Sea between Scotland and Norway by midnight.

A moist airmass prevails across the UK on Friday, characterised by dew points of 15-17C. Surface heating in sunny spells of this moist airmass is forecast to yield around 300-600 j/kg this afternoon across large parts of the UK. This instability will support more widespread development of increasingly heavy showers through the morning and into the afternoon, amongst these some thunderstorms too. Storms most likely to develop along lines of breeze convergence developing and also along one or two shortwave troughs moving NE. With PWAT (Precipitable Water) values of 30-33mm forecast, locally intense rainfall from storms may lead to some flash-flooding. Hail, cloud-to-ground lightning and strong wind gusts may also accompany storms. Areas least likely to see thunderstorms appear to be the far SW of England, S Ireland, southern and western coasts. Storms should fade after dark as diurnal heating wanes.

Storm threat mainly concentrated in the East today, but it is worth mentioning the Highlands of Scotland. There are some possible low level wind convergence zones which could be triggers for convection. Instability is not that great, winds are light and cloud cover will limit things so severe storms unlikely. Steering winds likely to move from coming from the South West to coming from the West and appear stronger than I expected. Pulse storms most likely.

nothing to get excited about today, same areas that got all the action yesterday will get all the action again today, so hotspots Yorkshire, Lincolnshire and NE coast will have yet another thundery day.

I just cant believe our area have had only one very distant rumble of thunder since August 2020 despite there being 24 separate thunderstorm warnings in place this summer.

Normally I don't get out of bed for less than a Supercell  but 2 years of no US chasing leads to desperate times.
I watched the earlier storm flash in the near distance and saw some nice CG's but that died out, seeing as the later storm was heading directly towards me I nipped out, caught a couple of strikes before it died on it's ****.
Taken Gravesend, Kent around midnight.

Ha! They don't call you 'Eagle eye' for nothing!
Apologies for the late reply, I must admit I didn't give those a second glance but on further inspection I think you're right.
Appreciate the heads up.

Slow-motion of a missed lightning, there was spider-lightning right after that but first you can see the odd lightning bolt that was supposedly in the garden because of my camera being weird.

Alright mate! Unfortunately I was driving to Cheshire on that day! Have only just caught up with things. Hope I didn’t miss anything decent. Happens every time I make an East to West journey!!
