Omfg crazy storm exploded over me. Started with an insane positive strike a few hundred metres away. Now constant thunder strike every 10 secs moving away to the east.

Good elevated thunderstorm for about 30 to 40 minutes. Several flashes and 40 or 50 rumbles of good deep thunder.

Picture shows the anvil and back edge as it is moving away from Wilmslow.

this aged well haha, you’ve got some reverse psychology on these thunderstorms

It's a technique my Great Great Grandfather used, and it still works

Fairly active cell heading towards the Belper area, @Supacell might only have to chase to the bottom of his garden for this one!

Indeed this one tracked very close to my locale. Not a direct hit but close enough to get lots of flashes, rumbles and a couple of good CGs. Chased it up the A38 and drove through its core of torrential rain and small amounts of hail. I now find myself near J33 of the M1 waiting on more action.

pic of a big cell taken a little earlier, it looked like it was getting organised but eventually decided just to dump a shedload of rain and leave it at that.

London about to get battered.

It is getting battered. From my office on the edge of the Olympic Park I have watched it get darker and darker as the cell has approached. An earlier cell a couple of hours ago left quite a mark but this is far bigger. Expect some pictures of flooded tube stations!

Here's the webcam so that you can see the storm and hopefully a cuple flashes of lightning off in the distance.

update from another site

11Z Nottingham ascent indicates Sig CAPE has formed over the Midlands , Eastern England & Northern England.   Thunderstorms have become heavy across Northern England in the left exit region of the strong Jet across the South.   Maximum 300-500mb divergence is across Northern England aloft.  This is allowing for greatest outflow of air, allowing for Tops to easily reach 26,000 or -40C

Storms across parts of N England showing active C/G Lightning and Hail and torrential rain.

Further South Shear is greater but instability and CAPE is lower due to weaker low to mid level lapse rates.   Still an area across the East Midlands, Lincs, parts of East Anglia and Eastern England where the greater instability and higher shear overlap which generates a slight risk of a severe Thunderstorm and marginal Tornado Threat through the rest of the afternoon.

Prob area around the Wash is still a possible area for a more intense Thunderstorm later today with risk of Hail, Possible Tornado.

Just had a torrential downpour. Biblical rainfall for almost 10 minutes. No thunder though.
