At least the rain falling here this side of the Peak District bodes well for later on if there's any substantial heating into the early evening hours, any further cells that initiate to the south will be getting that added moisture 'boost'.

According to the forecast it's saying showers will be more frequent in the evening with greatest risk of thunder and lightning, be interesting to see how the rest of the day plays out

More impressive rumbles and backbuilding going on here! That scud is moving incredibly fast too on the photo.

That would be the "storm" which managed one minor rumble here!

This may not be the end yet. Storm motion seems to have turned more SW-NE now. This favours Norfolk even better now. Keep an eye on those storms over the S Midlands.

The view out my back-window as the main rand band leaves, instability already settling up.

Got my eyes on that one SW of Peterborough now. Could be a good evening in these parts later on. No shortage of storms over the Midlands currently.

Sodden roads here on my travel back to north Sheffield, lots of surface water. No thunder though which is disappointing!

Cells definitely tracking more SW-NE now, and I daresay they seem to be a little faster as well. Not expecting much here this evening, purely from looking at the radar mind, so fingers crossed something initiates later.

That being said, it was nice to hear thunder over the Peaks earlier, even if it was only a couple of rumbles.

The storm close to Birmingham looks potentially severe going by the 16:40 radar

edit: not from lightning activity but more from the radar signature
