Fantastic day right through till early evening, but being september it means it cools off pleasantly in the evening, so no humid uncomfortable nights,

Despite the plume, looks like they’ll be no thundery breakdown, models indicating barely a few hundred j/kg of CAPE. Still time to enjoy the next few days where possible.

Following the theme of the summer then...

What?! Not quite the azure blue skies of June and July!

The hot spell in July was unpleasant. This is far more enjoyable.

Meh. Speak for yourself.

Anyways, humidity was much lower in July, more like 30-40% in the afternoon unlike today's 70%.

Agree. The July spell felt too much. The longer nights and lower sun altitude makes the difference between an unpleasant 30c and a nice feeling one.

It’s not so much the days that are the issue…it’s the incessant heat you get overnight when the nights are short.

Are you cold blooded? I was in a pool of my own juices most nights?!

No lol, but I do follow some basic measures to lessen heat in the bedroom (not that sort of heat...). My bedroom faces WSW, so I close the windows late morning, and keep them and curtains closed until sundown, then open them all up from then on so that the room cools throughout the night. Works a treat.

Also had all the windows open on the other side of the house all afternoon so the easterly wind circulated through the whole house.

I'll admit it took a bit longer to GET to sleep, but no problem sleeping thereafter.

I'm sure a relatively low resting heart rate helped a bit.

Tbf my my south facing bedroom window has the blind shut during hot weather and my west facing window is open into the breeze

That's all well and good but that's not where the wind comes in from during hot weather.

Am sure the breeze flows down the Valley predominantly from the west where i live on the yorkshire wolds, unless we get a N'e sea breeze?

I just knew this settled warm spell (particularly from tomorrow onwards) would bring us weather enthusiasts hurrying straight to this thread.

But yes, I agree with the comments above. Hot spells at this time of the year are usually far more comfortable than hot spells during July. Summer is done and gone, but it doesn't feel like autumn yet either. Whilst I don't rate September as being a very interesting month from a meterological point of view, from a personal point of view it often delivers the most pleasant weather of the year along with May.

I am still looking forward to those cold crisp autumn/witner mornings though.

Agree, first half of September on average is one if not the most settled period of the year. The sun however, has the same potency as it does in the very latter stages of March through to mid April. It is a transitional period in this regard. Autumn rarely kicks into gear until the equinox.

The dreaded September heatwave is upon us - stay strong everyone, the trees are turning, the berries are ripening and single figure nighttime minimas aren't too far away.

Fear not, it will soon be gone. Autumn will soon be joining us

How nice to see much of the UK enjoying a beautiful spell of weather in early autumn, especially after enduring such dreary rubbish in August. Might hit 30°C somewhere this week, lovely ☺️

Yes, because you’ve had so much warmth/heat to endure through the last 6 weeks
