Most if not all high res don't anything Substantial leaving Northern France till around 6-7pm tonight..  those showers/thunderstorms are surface based storms feeding of the very high temperatures there.. the storms later will be elevated and judging by high res

Yep, that's my take on the current situation too.

Comparing UKV with the radar, the stuff across N France now will drift northwards, but they seem mostly surface based at the moment, will be interesting to see if the lightning survives the channel.

It's the early hours of tomorrow morning when the storms we're all looking for begins to push into the UK, they haven't even started to develop yet.

We've still got at least 12hrs to go, anything arriving beforehand is a bonus.

The marathon streaming session begins....a little instability in the skies over the West Midlands is becoming more apparent.....We might be lucky enough to be able to catch one of the incoming rounds....or maybe not....trust in the EWN

The stuff leaving France now as far as I can see on models is extra and nothing to do with later.. look in the bay of biscay

True, also it’s currently far too warm for any of these cells to make it across the channel, they’ll be stripped of any moisture. Nocturnal cooling is a must in these plume situations.

Tonight is going to be one of those nights where the blackout blinds are kept up and all bedroom windows are left wide open so as to not to miss storms, and to try and sleep....the best of both worlds hopefully!

Oppressiveness beginning to ramp up - 29C here with a dew point of 17C, or in @Paul Sherman money, 84/63.

As that temperature starts dropping later it’s going to feel unbearably sticky!

from cloudless sky to some cloud and the breeze we have had all day is turning gusty at times. Still feels nice out. Didn't come back from school a sweaty mess.

Definitely need a few storms to clear the air here. Shot up from 26c to 28c in the last 15 minutes or so and dew point around 17c.

Edit:

Latest national forecast from the BBC has storms early evening, latest Met Office has nothing until at least mid night.

Haven't talked here for a while, hoping for some storms, need to recharge my phone before that though, feels like there's going to be a storm.

Well I don't know about younger people here but I still prefer to use fahrenheit. I don't know how it is now as I don't have a tv, but the BBC always used both Celsius and fahrenheit when I was a kid.

I usually use Celsius albeit I'd move to whichever is imperial.

ICON 12z and especially AROME 12z look great for east of IOW (not Kent Clipper) for tonight and tomorrow morning.
