Scattered towers to the west of London now. Regardless of whether they lead to a storm or not, at least they are nice to look at. I got bored of the empty skies of the last week.

Plenty of cloud bubbling up all over the place today and very quickly, will the maintain or will they fold flat as quick as they went up? Guess we shall need to wait and see..

Cloud suddenly popped up here in very sunny Somerset but 30C still.

I suspect just temporary cloud but we shall see.

First shallow radar returns SE of Reigate, still further heating expected so potential is there later.

AROME 6z has timed initiation well, and forecasts isolated thunderstorms across London/SE by 4pm.

Signs of increasingly robust convection starting to get going. Third image is the area possibly towards Reigate way I believe.

I've noticed today that the convective clouds are leaning to one side. My picture doesn't show it well, but is it in any way advantageous for them to lean?

Indication of the strong shear present (20kt ish) which in theory should help a storm to sustain further because the updraft/downdraft can separate from each other. Although, it can just rip these developing showers apart if its too strong.

One tower has just shot up on satellite south of London. Heavy rain in a very localised area on radar, making a beeline straight for me in Hailsham :)

That SE storm looks very intense already and developed in 15 - 20 mins.

Also wonder how big the potential is for the Midlands and Home counties overnight, as CW mentioned additional showers could develop here.
