Absolutely no storms to speak of in this corner of the world. Lots of rain showing on radar across London and the SE though (under blue skies and warm sunshine) which means one thing - “flying ant day”

Heavy showers already kicking off. Looking at the radar returns, just north of Bury St Edmunds has seen near 30mm in half an hour. With such light winds some places could see some flash flooding today.

Wouldn't get too excited, the storm capital of the UK Lincolnshire looks like once again it will hog all the storms....

Monday might see some thunderstorms, with a brief plume and low across the south.

I know that today is more capped than an American basketball team - but the convection is coming along very nicely.

Expect more pictures of this to surface, I think it touched down or at least got close in some pics I've seen on Facebook

If I'm right the one your seeing is just leaving where I am and it's growing still

Wow - that's one of the most photogenic funnel clouds i've seen in the UK!

Surprising as the radar didn't look v. impressive?

It is. Strange as it went a little dark and I thought I'll check the radar to see if I should bring the washing in and I got the message it's only a mile or so from me

If you live in the east half of the UK eyes to the sky today, more landspouts or funnels are possible.

12z Nottingham ascent slightly modified for conditions in East Anglia. Produces around 500 J/kg CAPE, with steep low-level lapse rates (rapid decrease in temperature with height). Reasonably fat CAPE below 700mb but becomes much skinnier above due to dry/warm layers aloft. Therefore scope for heavy showers, but little thunder due to being too shallow with much of the cloud layer above freezing.

Winds are light throughout the cloud-bearing layer, with minimal shear resulting in slow-moving, pulse-type mode. Very moist through the cloud-bearing layer, which coupled with vorticity along convergence zones being stretched by updraughts has aided numerous funnel cloud reports so far.

Classic surface heating fuelled cell that popped in the SE just after half 11 and hung around more less over Canterbury due to low-level convergence. Wind direction had a sudden switch from a SW'ly to a N'ly here in Herne Bay just after quarter to 12 which has an evident effect on the northern half of the cell as it strengthened. Managed to avoid recording any rain but certainly made a difference.

I've attached a timelapse below looking W - N as well below from 11:00 to 13:00. Do wonder if anyone did catch any rotation.

Hold my hands up, I wasn’t expecting anything today. So I was quite surprised when I noticed that the humidity suddenly went through the roof, and I noticed this convective cloudscape starting to brew up over towards Chester way. ?
