Thunder and lighting to the east and west of me, but no rain? What's that all about???

Oh, and an England victory too...

Cracking night all round! Cheers!

Lightning on the Stoke cell now. Can just see the anvil lit up white above the lower clouds. No lightning here yet.

Nice T + L storm here, frequent flashes and a few big rumbles. Had torrential rain for about 5 minutes as well. Rain stopped but storm still quietly rumbling on with frequent flashes.

Lightning South and North of me now. Leek cell and Bolton cell seem to be sparking around once a minute high in the anvil.

Several deep rumbles of thunder within 15 mins or so.

Yes some lovely rumbles this afternoon.

I'm just next door in great wyrley and apparently a lightning strike hit a house in Norton canes and caused a lot of damage.

Tropical style downpour here with a few decent overhead loud rumbles, didn't see any lightning but the detector shows there was, and got soaked through walking home. Not complaining though its part of the fun and it certainly kept me cool from he mugginess  A couple of snaps of the skies after the storm, which looks like a newly forming anvil.

There certainly was a lightning strike.  Just further north in Norton canes.  Caused a lot of damage to a house apparently.

Torrential rain for 5 mins or so. Lightning seems to have stopped now. No thunder at all. How strange!

The mess currently heading into Wales, will that electrify do we think or is it more general rain?

Just had a cell from Congleton/Leek direction pass right over Macc.  A few flashes came from it as it tracked here but no thunder. Did you see it?

Also, the lightning didn't register on either blitzortung or the radar maps.

Just witnessed an incredible bright flash of lightning and a loud crack of thunder, pretty sure it was anvil lightning I just witnessed

Well its been a fantastic day in South Staffordshire today.

I've been out on a 16 mile hike and witnessed some fantastic cloud formation,  several thunder cracks and lightning. I remained dry throughout my hike without a drop of rain.

Absolutely loved it and now chilling out with a beer and some good food

I see plenty of you are having a good time. Enjoy!

My forecast for Reigate was spot on (small "toot" as I blow my own trumpet). On Friday I forecasted a high pressure slope to the south and east that I thought was under-represented in the general forecasts. Sure enough it was present today (Saturday) and  dried everything out exactly as I expected.

After this morning's bit of rain, we had a mix of sun and cloud for the day. There is nothing threatening now.

As for the Met Office's seaweed-based forecast of heavy rain for this area after midnight tonight, it is already being sold off with discounted DFS sofas.

Met Office. All that cash and what can they do?        Hope tomorrow will bring me some luck.

The flooding in the Middle East desert city of Dubai earlier in the week followed record-breaking rainfall.
