Only 2 distant but clear rumbles earlier and been heavy to torrential rain since then, a good soaking. But storm still going near Birmingham and near London.

All those storms forecast last week and we got nowt here.

Suddenly this beast has arisen out of nowhere in E.London. No warnings, nothing!

Shows how hard these things are to forecast.

It’s ironic that we sweat through plumes which often deliver nothing, but have days which are much more comfortable, such as today, and it delivers a whole load of action out of nothing!

.... When a low pressure is forecast to become enhanced over the UK then forecast modelling tends to struggle so worth a radar watch with a risk of a weak spout like tornado but there is every chance nothing will appear either as its not a strong convective environment. Cloud cover ,heat island effects , low tropopause, surface convergence all likely to play a part, worth a heads up though.

I would say that you called it!

I could be completely wrong but I think the storm did a right split?

Would need some actual cloud pics but not improbable I suppose.

Here in Guildford, Surrey we swelter through plumes that deliver nothing but 'Kent clippers' and then we get the other potential hopeful situations for thundery weather which also don't deliver - time and time again.

Still waiting to hear thunder in this uninteresting and disappointing month, summer, year & decade.

I was gonna mention this myself.  The tornadic, hail producing, mammatus cloud producing storm that took a sharp right turn makes me wanna drop the S bomb...

Definitely. The usual plume events always end with the same old elevated evening storms. Don’t get me wrong, I love them but the interesting stuff is always unexpected

Don't like to mention the S bomb or people start wetting themselves.

...More of this please this summer but hopefully out in the countryside and not built up areas

I'm about to jinx things massively but, I don't think we're done this weekend.  We've had a supercell in Essex and an MCS (?) in the West Midlands.  Surely the mechanisms behind this happy accident have not already scarpered

A comment underneath clearly states this isn't in the UK.

Impressive convective weather over E/NE London today. The storm clouds were twisting and turning right overhead.  ☔

That's an inflow tail, it was a super cell.

The flooding in the Middle East desert city of Dubai earlier in the week followed record-breaking rainfall.
