Yes Poole I would expect to see the first of the flashes in night time darkness,  Salisbury by about 1am my estimation

I would really appreciate a downpour now just to cool me down a bit!

Also, last year these events used to cause me excitement and stress. I love the whole weather watching aspect but lived in a house with a frustratingly leaky roof no matter how many repairs were made, heavy rain always used to find it's way in.

Now, thanks to divorce I live in a much dryer house and have the freedom to weather watch as much as I like!

Enjoy!

I can say with pretty much 100% certainty that there will be no storms in Cheshire tonight.

no thats guaranteed. We never get anything. Even with storms in the north west we still never get any.

The surface based / mid level activity earlier has now progressed into elevated material confirmed by lightning elevation data of 40,000ft recently over the Channel.

Lol. The surface based storms all died. The storms from France earlier are giving me the usual miserable rain from the forward spreading anvil. New elevated storms are forming on the eastern side of the french dross and these have initiated because of the mid level destabilisation moving north, not because of the French storms. In fact, it is quite obvious that the fallout from the surface french storms have actually interfered with anything elevated forming further west.

Its a long-shot but hoping for clear skies here (if it's not going to thunder overnight) to allow the possibility of seeing the tops of the storms over the SE & East Anglia lightning-up in the dark. Given the distance it's right on the edge of the peripheral but a few times in the past i've seen the tops of cells over N.London some 140 miles away from the hills around Buxton.

It’s been steady convective rain for about an hour. No thunder of lightning

This is taken from Southbourne, no storm obviously, but interesting to see the outflow from the storms crossing the channel. Looks dark on the horizon towards Isle of Wight.

Rain from the big mushroom just started here in Hailsham, E Sussex. Radar looks like it will be hammering down here shortly.

Here in Norfolk I think we're slightly closer to you than North London is, so you might see ours if they last.

Fresh storms firing over N France - big concern is if they follow the line of the current batch. If they can veer more northerly might get lucky in the early hours

I thought things are only suppose to kick off later on this evening for the south and southeast?

I wonder if this is a sign that everyone will lose out on the thundery weather and be gutted like us lot here already are in the West.
