Here in Cumbria one decent month makes a summer and June was excellent.

Anyway, any summer that is book ended by a severe winter is a good year!

Its July and August that make a summer,June is almost always at least decent

The constant bickering is partly why the moans thread is my favourite one on the whole forum. Who needs Netflix when you can just come on here?

It’s even funnier in winter! Many a laugh to be had, very entertaining

I honestly thought I had woken up in November this morning!  So, so dark, howling wind and heavy rain on and off.  Early August???  Tried to sit out with a glass of wine half an hour ago and the wind was blowing everything off the table.  Fed up with it!

I'd say forecast a bit crap for today, was meant to be sun and showers, not slow moving front from the west

Garbage weather this weekend - did get a clap of thunder on Friday afternoon though which takes my grand total up to about 5 claps - making it an extremely thundery summer by recent standards.

Ive spoken to many people from Northumberland, to Hertfordshire, Norfolk, Devon etc and they all agree it’s been an absolutely dogs**t summer.

One of the worst Summers I can remember, with almost endless wind and rain! In fact nearly every weekend has been ruined in some form because of the weather........ A week's worth of dry humid weather does not make a summer. Dreadful and time is running out before it's back to Autumn. **** weather

I know, awful, isn't it?  My heating is on as I write so must be chilly.  What's the betting that the weather will suddenly improve in September when it's too late to enjoy lovely light evenings outside?

How wrong can you get it? This wrong! Yesterday's forecast for Sunday, and Today's forecast for Sunday... Both BEEB and Met epic fail

Using @BruenSryan's summer index, I worked out this summer so far and its rankings.

June 2021 was 38th worst in the series going back to 1935 from Manston at 26.061994750656

July 2021 was 115th worst in the series going back to 1935 from Manston at 32.544170688341

Still not as bad as the likes of June 2016 (18.000052493438) & August 2010 (18.978282956566) which both stood at 3rd and 6th worst.

All lights on in the house at 10.30am in ‘high summer’ because it’s so dark. 14 degrees and steady rain falling.

Probably confirmation bias but I swear days like this were really rare in pre 2010 summers (they obviously happened but were very notable when they did) - in recent summers we seem to get 10-15 days like this at least.

Manchester sunnier than London? Someone is having a laugh

It seems that Greenwich really only averaged 1410 hours of sunshine per year from 1981 to 2010, but most other areas of London, particularly to the west, are sunnier than that with around 1550-1650 hours. Would Greenwich be more prone to fog perhaps? I think I've seen an average annual sunshine map somewhere showing a noticeable dull area around London.

A whole weekend of festering dog poo. After yesterday's washout today just cool grey windy. And last night walking back from the pub was horribly cold and it felt like November. Today our temps are on a par with Iceland.  Utterly shocking.

Boregust is certainly turning out to be a grotty month here. Not concerned about the temps but for my outdoor hobbies such as cycling, it's been a nuisance with extremely poorly forecast rainfall amounts/timings, and where I live are plenty of very steep hills which can be pretty lethal when damp especially the busier ones. 15-20 degrees is great for outdoor activities so no complaints about temperatures, but what does it take just to get a dry week in summer?

This is what I always found laughable about those who complained about it being too hot during the first half of June, and the middle of July, when it reached temps of 28-32c for barely a few days at a time.

In the meantime we have to put up with 17-21c weather, cloudy skies and damp conditions. How is that useable for anyone in the height of summer? Lol

Yes, nobody wants days on end of 35c, but a week of 30c heat and the odd day of 35c wouldn’t go a miss right now.

Dubai Floods: Another Warning Sign for Desert Regions?

The flooding in the Middle East desert city of Dubai earlier in the week followed record-breaking rainfall. It doesn't rain very often here like other desert areas, but like the deadly floods in Libya last year showed, these rain events are likely becoming more extreme due to global warming.
