The models have adjusted Nichola's track south and forward speed has slowed down significantly. This is bad news for Louisiana which is going to get stuck under Nicholas for the next few days. Even as he downgrades later to a tropical depression, there will be plenty of rainfall left especially as he will stay close to the Gulf, feeding him with moisture.

Mandarin south of Cape Verde but will probably move north west if it develops. Fish food.

Quite funny how the NHC is keeping itself amused at present, its Poorly Organised Pete turns North and Disorganised Rose Moves NW.

Meanwhile, yet to be named Sam looks menacing.

So far only the ECM shows an interesting mostly westerly track. The GFS sees it as going north like many previous storms.

It was mooted about 10 days ago that the extra tropical Low of Typhoon Chanthu would force a wave across the Northern Hemisphere, pushing down through the States and creating a large block conducive to lower latitude travel Low pressure storms.

This wave is crossing USA today.

The latest Ecm join the gfs with a recurve north after the leeward islands.

It looks to me like the story of this season. Unless the Gulf of Mexico livens up again I can't see another landfall occurring.

It's a fish, surprised it turns North so fast, although this one could well affect the west coast of Europe (including us) at some point late next week.

Sam and Larry have done their best to remove energy from the Atlantic.

Best hope for late season may be the Caribbean and gulf

For me, this is a perfect example of a hurricane season that is very active but it lacks memorable moments. Most of the activity stays out in the oceans.

The Gulf of Mexico after earlier activity has gone dead.
