I was 4, but it’s one of my favourite years in terms of British pop music. It’s very much a transition from the 1970s still, before all the big 80s bands started to appear in 1981.

1980 had a warm April, and May, but a poor summer. This is the soundtrack it all.

Before my time, but give me music from 1980 over the music of today. Thanks for sharing.

You’re welcome.

I will take The Jam, Martha and the Muffins, Ub40, Madness, Blondie, over the likes of Dua Lipa, Lady Gaga, Or Ariana Grande, or any of those whiny singer songwriters from the recent decade.

Those were the days when we recorded with our finger at the ready, when Top of the pops and radio 1 on a Sunday evening was telling us what was number 1 in the charts .....good old days

#58: 23.10.1980 – Top Of The Gear The latest episode of the podcast which asks: has anyone ever done that to someone else’s nostrils? Really? Neither willing to go out...

The above is a podcast I stumbled upon last year. It’s a group of music journalists, who analyse a random episode of Top of the Pops, from a bygone year. It’s quite funny.

Often think the first year of the new decade is a bridge somewhat from the previous decade to the netlxt, often doesn't know what it wants to be.. finds its feet music wise. 1990 was like this.

My favourite by Dexy's is Geno, but I also like Dance Stance, which came out earlier in 1980. I don't know why they decided to drop the horn sections, and become all folk sounding

in 1982. I never really liked the direction once they became Celtic Soul Brothers.

It's definitely a good mixture of genres. I have been listening to retro charts for a number of years, but 1980 is possibly one of my favourites.

I listened to April 1981 yesterday, and even within that 12 month period, you can notice a few differences. 1983/84 are decent years also.

1985 and 86 are the ones I have difficulty with, as by this stage, the New Wave acts that defined the 79-84 era, have now faded.
