Just a light shower so far here but certainly feels nice outside as if something is going to happen. Cell in the bay has died.

WRF predicting a convergence zone to pass over between 8–9 p.m. here with significant veering of the wind aloft. Has around 500 J CAPE at that time with significant convective precip. Let’s see what happens.

BRITAIN is bracing for a blistering 24C African plume to sweep southern parts of the nation, according to the latest weather maps and charts.

Not sure what they've seen?

Ignore the express on the weather, they seem to be obsessed by it

Lol, I think they use pinecones for long term forecasts.

Nice evening sky after the heavy shower with one crack of thunder.

Feel the old excitement back again. Same every time thunderstorms or even heavy showers are bearing down on us. My family think I am nuts rushing from window to window  but i dont think they get it... There is nothing like it...hopefully more tomorrow....

THUNDERSTORM WATCH - SUN 16TH MAY 2021

stormmap_160521.thumb.png.24e56214bbbd74d6afe4663ebf457b9c.png

Issued 2021-05-16 06:49:50
Valid: 16/05/2021 0600 - 17/05/2021 0600

Forecast Details

Broad upper troughing will extend from the N Atlantic east across northern Europe on Sunday to the north of strong jet stream running E from the Atlantic across France, central and SE Europe. An upper level low will drift E across northern England through the day, while a shallow surface low over Ireland early morning moves E to be across the Midlands by 18z.

Occluded front and areas of vorticity advection wrapping around the surface low moving east will bring bands of showers eastward across much of England and Wales. With cold air aloft in the mid-levels, surface heating in sunny spells will create increasingly steep lapse rates and instability through the day, yielding between 300-600 j/kg CAPE and supporting the development of thunderstorms amongst increasingly heavy showers. Thunderstorms most likely in areas of maximised surface lift along zones of surface breeze convergence which will slowly shift east across England and Wales. Lightning won’t be particularly prolific and rather sporadic, like recent days, but given slow-moving nature of any storms, locally intense bursts of rain could lead to localised flooding and tricky driving conditions from surface spray of standing water. Light winds aloft and surface breeze convergence will be ideal conditions for the development of funnel clouds with stronger updrafts and perhaps even a brief/weak tornado. Small hail may accompany heaviest shower or storms.

Thunderstorms should fade after dark, given strongest instability will be mostly driven by diurnal heating.

I was thinking of chasing today but I think everything is a bit hit and miss. Granted there will be thunderstorms but they could literally crop up anywhere and will likely die out soon after forming due to a lack of wind shear. Therefore it is not worth me driving out, as with no clear place of where to head I have as much chance of seeing something at home. I will be keeping an eye out for any convergence zones nearby as this could allow more organised cells, or at least multiple pulse storms training over similar areas. Biggest threat today is with flooding due to training of heavy showers and the fact they will be slow moving. i don't think today will match with what we had on Tuesday, but even so, could still be some briefly pretty potent heavy showers and storms.

Yeah I wouldn't suggest trying to chase these thunderstorms.
