Storms and convective discussion - 1st April 2021 onwards

Recommended Posts

Some extremely heavy showers here in Bournemouth now. Convergence giving a little bit of low level rotation as the showers bouncing along the coast. Just surprised there’s not been more lightning activity.

Edit - just looked at radar and the showers are all merging into several big wet messes so any chance of decent lightning activity in the south seems to be rapidly decreasing.

Yeah, and much more to come judging by what is approaching form the west, hopefully they will intensify as the afternoon goes on!

Us southern costal dwellers might also be in luck for the evening hours going by some of the convective forecasts.

Cameras and tripods are on full standby just in case

Nothing exciting here, just very windy. I don't see much happening this evening, showers will tend to die away.

The sun broke through here for about 20 mins and I decided to do a quick walk before more rain comes again.

I'm glad I did because I saw this beauty

Lots of nice bright colours on that radar, and as Chris mentioned, a convergence zone setting up along the South Coast. A distinct lack of lightning so far, unless the detectors just aren't picking it up. I guess tomorrow always looked the tastier day thunder-wise either way!

I think after what happened on Tuesday, our convective expectations have been raised beyond the norm...

Edit.  I'm not speaking for everyone of course, just speaking generally

Canada and now Russia, why are typically cold countries doing better than us with thunderstorms?

My message above shows it as a classic homegrown Ashford Thunderstorm lol.

Hopefully we get something in the South West tonight. I got a 32% chance of thunderstorms here. We've had a bunch of very heavy showers pass through yet no thunder so I'm crossing my fingers for later tonight.

A decent storm came over here, much more active then the storms we were meant to get from that "kent clipper" but not up to the standards where i would record it, had some good thunder and a few cloud-to-air lightning strikes

Also the storm made us lose internet connection for about 40mins

Can't seem to get anything here. Almost 4 years since a thunderstorm materialised.

Had a few fairly heavy showers here earlier in the afternoon but the second half of the afternoon has been dry. Missing the more exciting showers as always

Russia has had some stunning supercelluar activity from the this event. Some great snaps on Twitter, tornadoes too.

Had some convective showers here today but disappointed given the forecast, nearest lightning strike about 75km away.

Kicking off west of Crosby in Liverpool bay, Radio confirms. Needed a bit further south.
