    Afternoon all,

Hope I find yourselves and your Families, well.

I will now post up the Format and Scoring System, I'll be using.

Very briefly, the competition will be based on each of your 12 selected golfers, finishing positions.

Bonus points will be given, for "Eagles" holed, "Bogies" shot, lowest round of the day and highest finishing golfer, from each of these World Regions (Top AMERICAN Top Euroropean, Top Rest of World golfer).

You will also be asked to nominate the most likely winner, from your 12 selected golfers. Again, should your nominated winner be victorious, you will be awarded bonus points, based on their fixed odds price.

All these Bonus Points, will be MINUSED off, apart from that for a "Bogey", which will be an Addition, to the finishing position, of each your 12 selected golfers. So in this instance, LOWEST, is best. It sounds complicated but really, it isn't.

Once any B/Points have been MINUSED off each of your Golfer's finishing position, they will be given a new figure.

This figure will be called your Golfer's, Fantasy Figure (F/F)

All 12 of your selected Golfer's Fantasy Figures (F/F), will then be added together and divided by 12, to give an average Fantasy Figure (F/F), for your 12 selected Golfers.

The Entrant with the LOWEST Fantasy Figure, shall be deemed the Winner  of the Competition.

I will now Post up details of the value of Bonus Points to be awarded for each of the 4 Rounds of the Tournament.

Out of your 12 selected golfers, nominate the golfer you feel, most likely to win the tournament, your "NAP", in other words.

If your nominated golfer wins, you will extra bonus points, which will be MINUSED off, your golfers finishing position.

The bonus points will be determined by your golfers, "Fixed Odds" price, as follows:

    15/2 to 14/1(inc)     =  -2 pts.

    16/1 to 25/1(inc)     =  -3 pts.

    28/1 to 50/1(inc)     =  -4 pts.

    60/1 to 90/1(inc)     =  -5 pts.

    100/1 to 150/1(inc) =  -6 pts.

These points are MINUSED off because the tournament is geared to the lowest score, winning.

Other BONUS POINTS on offer, as follows:

Lowest round of the day = -2 pts.

World Region winner, over the tournament, as follows: TOP USA GOLFER =  - 4pts, Top European Golfer =  - 3pts,    Top Rest of World Golfer =  - 2 pts.

    Every "Eagle" holed =  - 0.5 pt.

Every "Bogey" scored = +0.5 pt. (as a "Bogey" signifies a poorly played hole, this will be added to your Golfer's finishing position).

In all these categories, should your golfer "dead-heat", bonus points will be awarded in full. Again, all these bonus points, apart from that of a "Bogey" (which will be ADDED to) will be MINUSED off, your golfers finishing position.

The value of these are only small, as your Golfer's performance will already be reflected, in his finishing position.

Soon, I will Post up a couple of examples of how the Scoring System will look, on your Golfer's "Scorecard."

    Regards,

    Tom.  👍 🏌️‍

Just to illustrate the Scoring System in "action".

Here are a few of the Golfer's scores, from the U.S. Masters Fantasy Competition, in 2018:

    P.REED           1st  +1. TOP 5 FINISH: (-1) TOP USA: (-4)  Eagles: (-2) = (+1-1-4-2 = -6 )                         F/F = -6

    R.FOWLER     2nd +2. TOP 5 FINISH: (-0.5) Eagles:(-1) = (+2 -0.5-1 = +0.5)                                            F/F = +0.5

    J.SPIETH         3rd  +3. TOP 5 FINISH: (-0.5) Lowest 1st Rd: (-4) Lowest 4th Rd: (-4)  Eagles: (-1)     F/F = -6.5

    J.RAHM          4th +4. TOP 5 FINISH: (-0.5) Lowest 3rd Rd: (-4) TOP EURO: (-3) Eagles:(-2)               F/F = -5.5

    R.McILROY    5th +5. TOP 5 FINISH:  (-0.5) Lowest 3rd Rd: (-4) Eagles: (-1)                                         F/F = -0.5

                                                                  F/F = Fantasy Figure.

Tomorrow, I will be sending out P.M. Entry invites to those Members, who have previously entered my Golf Competitions.

If any other Member would like to enter this Competition, could you please indicate your intention, by Posting on this Thread.

    Thank you.

    Morning all,

Hope I find yourselves and your Families, well.

Some of you will be aware, that my Son Antony, sadly passed away on 24th February, after a 17 Year battle with the genetically inherited condition, Huntington's Disease.

Antony was a strapping 6 footer, before this crippling illness struck.

Below, is a photo of Antony with his Sister Hayley, on Holiday in Italy before the disease took hold:

    image.thumb.png.e1b5db5dbb0d6d6028c1a407141280cc.png

My Son really enjoyed playing and watching Golf. Although not always accurate, Antony could hit the ball, a "Country Mile" off the Tee!!

This often resulted with him having to hit his 2nd shot, from an adjacent Fairway. We often played together, at our local Golf Courses in Beckenham, on the London/N.W. Kent border and Addington, just over 6 Miles to the South, on the London/ N.E. Surrey border.

Like his Golfing hero Phil Mickelson, Antony was a "Lefty."

Antony enjoyed a small Golf Wager, too and backed the big hitting Californian, in all 3 of his U.S. Master's victories, in 2004, 2006 and 2010.

My Son also shared that same, almost embarrassed, Schoolboy smile, that big Phil played with:

    image.png.a079792366d4d1f887a9c7aeb7545c72.png

Latterly, Antony was a big fam of Aussies Jason Day and Adam Scott, and not forgetting N. Ireland's Rory McIlroy.

My Son enjoyed entering my Golf Competitions, so it is only right that I enter Antony, posthumously, in this Competition.

Therefore, below is the personalised "Scorecard" of ANTONYBR7's "Team of 12 Golfers:

Much thanks for the above, Callum. As I expected, straight down the middle with your first drive, having followed the Format to a Tee!!

You just need to NAP, which one of your 12 Golfers, you think is most likely to win.

Did you mention a deadline? I am going to wait a bit and see what kind of weather they expect if the deadline is that close to the first round, makes a difference in who I might pick. Those oddsmakers could use some help, there's no way Jason Day is more likely to win the Masters than Adam Scott or Molinari. Do you think? I see the Canadian flag is the white flag of surrender, that's probably right. Corey Connors is pretty good but I may pass there.

What if you think somebody not on any of the four lists might win? Would that be covered by an extra guess and be worth any points, or just irrelevant to the contest?

The only reason you won't see me there is my drives are too short, my approach shots are too inaccurate, and my chipping and putting suck. But I can add up scores with the best of them and have a lot more experience than many -- Bryson just adds them up in advance apparently.

    Hi Roger,

Hope I find yourself and your Family, well.

It's 4.30 A,M. here in the U.K. I've been getting up at this time, at the moment, as I tend to lie awake and think of my Son Antony, lying in a Mortuary. So, like to get up and occupy my mind, with some distracting stuff.

You raise some very good points.

    1) - I normally mention an Entry deadline but it obviously escaped my attention, on this occasion.

    But I think I'll make it 9.00 P.M., on Weds. 7th April.

    2) - British Oddsmakers, tend to be creatures of habit but as I don't have Sky Sports and can't afford it as I am no longer working, due to the Stroke I suffered 5 and a half Years ago and only in receipt of a Disability Benefit, am a bit "out of the loop" regarding current Golf form.

I tend to use William Hill, as we did when I worked for Credit Bookmakers Sunderland, in Croydon, Surrey. They seemed to be pretty accurate on their Odds making, for the majority of Sports - Horse Racing, Football, Golf, Cricket, etc.

I also have regular Golf chats, with my Daughter's partner, Paul. Paul was Assistant/Acting Manager at Sunderland, and our Golf Odds compiler, for a time and also quite  successful Golf punter, at times. He also plays a decent game.

Being half Italian, I'm a big fan of Francesco Molinari and when on form, is extremely accurate and led the stats for a while, in those departments. He was also part of the very successful pairing, which became known as "Moliwood". When hooking to score much needed points with Tommy Fleetwood for the European Team, in the most recent Ryder, against the Americans.

Paul informs me that Jordan Spieth, is having a bit of a renaissance after being in the "doldrums", for a couple of Years. As we know, he burst on the Golf radar soon after turning Pro, is a former World number 1 and very quickly racked up 3 Major wins, in the U.S. Masters, U.S. Open and British Open.

    3) - Apologies for the non appearance of the Canadian flag, for Corey Connors, a new name to me, I must admit.

The powers that be at NW Towers, dropped the old Emojis, in the favour of a new list, which doesn't include flags of the World. I couldn't find an image of a small enough Canadian flag, to use.

As NW have also dropped the Colour Palate function, I've had to use different Font styles to differentiate between "World" Zones.

UPPER CASE = U.S.A. Golfers. Lower Case = European Golfers. Italics = Rest of the World Golfers.

When I sent you the Email with all the Competition details, I was able to use the Colour Palate function, in Hotmail.

When you Copy/Paste coloured text, into a NW Post, you lose the colour. Do you know of a way, around that problem, Roger?

    4) - Another point that I didn't make clear, was that the 4 Groups (A,B.C,D), are made up of the top 48 Golfers, in the William Hill Betting list and are what I refer to as the "Fantasy" Field. Those Bonus Points on offer, such as:

Lowest round of the day = -2 pts.

World Region winner, over the tournament, as follows:

     TOP USA GOLFER =  - 4pts, Top European Golfer =  - 3pts,    Top Rest of World Golfer =  - 2 pts.

These refer to all the Field in the Tournament and should a Golfer outside of the "Fantasy" Field, win those Categories, then those Bonus Points are lost, to the "Fantasy" Field.

Yes, there is no way I could play Augusta, either Pre Stroke or Post Stroke. I was way too short off the Tee, as well.

As I stated in my introductory Post, Antony would always out hit me off the Tee but was a bit wayward with his driving. Think he would have ended up in Rae's Creek, through Amen Corner. He would often slice his booming, left handed drives!!

Hope, I've cleared up those Points you've raised.

BTW, I'll have to be aware of late withdrawals, too. Can some Golfers still qualify at this late stage, for the Masters?

Looking forward to your Entry, Roger and by 9 P.M on Weds. 7th April, will be fine for it.

I need to send you a P.M., as there is something I need to put to you.

    Regards,

    Tom. 👍 🏌️‍

Thanks, Tom, as far as I know the field for the Masters is pretty much set, but a winner not in the field already at this week's event could get in. However since that event invites the top 64 world ranked players, most of them would already be invited. The event a week from now (Valero Open, San Antonio) was won a couple of years ago by Corey Connors (his only win to date) but I think that event only qualifies you to go to the following year's Masters. If somebody drops out of the field, I don't think they invite somebody else to take their place, might be wrong about that, it could go to the next highest world ranking not already invited.

That deadline should give me a chance to check the weather situation, I'll let the field know what the models are saying.

One guy who is perhaps a question mark is Brooks Koepka, he's withdrawn from this week's event due to a nagging shoulder injury.

Rory McIlroy not in very good form recently, might help him not to be a favourite as he's never had much luck at Augusta.

    Hi Tom,

thanks for the invite,as an ancient 83 year old I will try to send my selections when I can. Roger and I had a couple of rounds many years ago in Newcastle but the return in Vancouver never happened. So sorry to hear about your son, I am in a similar position, I lost my only son to cancer early  4 years ago, he too hit the ball a country mile, I miss him so much, my daughter will be undergoing a major operation. On 31 st March so forgive me if you competition goes on the back burner for now

Best of luck and I will attempt to enter in due course, regards, Rollo.

Hi Tom and fellow contestants (fore), will post some guesses now in case I am otherwise occupied closer to deadline, will let you know if these are edited later Tom. The early call on the weather by the way is relatively warm and bland, a frontal passage during the event around Friday may mean one wettish day, temps in the 20-25 C range. That could change but based on that don't think wind will be much of an issue, that was one factor I thought might influence my picks.

So here's the picks I made from the four groups ...

    A Dustin Johnson ___ USA ___ 15/2

    A Jon Rahm _________ EUR ___ 11/1

    A Patrick Reed ______ USA ___ 25/1

    B Tyrrell Hatton ____ EUR ___ 28/1

    B Cameron Smith __ ROW ___ 40/1

B Joaquin Niemann_ ROW ___ 50/1 ___ also my pick for NAP

    C Scotty Scheffler ___ USA ___ 50/1

    C Sergio Garcia _____ EUR ___ 55/1

    C Max Homa ________ USA ___ 70/1

    D Jason Kokrak _____ USA ___ 90/1

    D Phil (the thrill) M _ USA ___ 90/1 ___ Mickelson

D Matt Kuchar ______ USA __ 150/1 __ would bet on this guy for place or show type returns, 150/1?

______________________________________ compared to those other odds, he's a bargain (top four this weekend)

    __________________________

Tom let me know if that looks "in bounds" -- wanted to include Connors but with only 2 ROW he's more like 3 or 4 in that pool.

Bryson? They will have the course set up to frustrate his m.o., my opinion, he will do okay but as many bogeys as birdies.

Much thanks for the above, Roger, and the latest Forecast for Augusta.

Along with Callum and Jackie, you've smacked your first drive, straight down the middle, having followed the Format to a Tee!!

It leaves you in position A, for your 2nd shot.

I'll find the rough pretty soon, will say that of all the unlisted entrants, Mackenzie Hughes (CAN) has a good chance of doing well, he seems to be in good form as of this past week (out in the round of 16 in match play to Sergio Garcia). I picked Niemann because he is capable of hitting a lot of greens in reg and then sinks a lot of putts (had 31 birdies in 72 holes at the Tournament of Champions in Hawaii at start of the year, lost in playoff there). There's a pretty good correlation between results at that venue and Augusta, it's hilly, big undulating greens, not much rough unless you're Bryson, similar weather). Probably ended his chances by picking him though. 😉

Weather still looking benign, nice and dry all of this week with rather warm temperatures, a weak front moves through Thursday afternoon and evening, with occasional rain (highs near 21 C) then clearing on Friday and into the weekend with highs 21 to 24 C, light winds generally. This probably means they will set up difficult hole locations because the wind won't be much of a factor. The course won't be wet even after that weak front, as it has been dry recently, so the greens should be running fast.

    Afternoon all,

Hope I find yourselves and your Families, well.

Apologies to Callum (K/WEATHER), Jackie (DRECKLY) and Roger (J.SMITH0 but I've just found this U.S. Master's Player-by-Player guide but never fear, those 3 Entrants I've mentioned still have until 9 P.M. on Wednesday Evening, to change their Entry, if they so wish. I've always found it's a bad idea to change your mind, and your discarded Selections are likely to bite your b-m, and gain revenge.

For those Members still wishing to Enter and require a little bit of help with their Selections, below is the link to the Guide, by Ben Coley, the Sporting Life Website's, Golf Pundit:

Player-by-player guide to the 2021 Masters Tournament at Augusta National (sportinglife.com)

I will never complain about my Wife's driving again!! Another to find the middle of the Fairway, with her first Tee shot.

I've decided to dedicate this Competition to my Son, ANTONYBR7's memory. Antony passed away on 24th February, after a 17 Year battle with a genetically inherited condition. Jackie (DRECKLY), has kindly designed a Memorial Trophy, to Antony's memory

Here's something interesting, apparently in the first Masters tournament (1934) they played the back nine as the front nine and vice versa, making the change in 1935 to what we assumed was always the case. So they once upon a time started with "Amen corner" which must have been a tough start to a round of golf. The front nine 1-2-3 make a much easier start.

Here are some other interesting historical trivia ... the famous holed shot for 2 by Gene Sarazen on the par-5 15th was in that second Masters in the fourth round. He tied with Craig Wood and they had a two-round playoff on the following day to decide the winner (Sarazen won by five). This shot has been called "the shot heard around the world."

In 1942 a playoff was also needed, this time it was one round. Byron Nelson beat Ben Hogan by one strokes (69 vs 70).

In 1949 the green jacket first appeared. They had played twelve Masters 1935-49 (missing 1943-45) and there were nine champions who all received the green jacket that day.

One last piece of trivia, there was no cut after two rounds at the Masters until 1957.

    Morning all,

Hope I find yourselves and your Families, well.

Thanks for those pieces of Trivia, Roger.

Another piece of Trivia that I've found, which I'm really pleased about. I'm a sad case, really I am.

I can now complete, "Tom's wonderful World of Golf Flags." Just call me Sheldon!!

          CAN_sm.gifCorey Connors (CAN)          R.O.W.           100/1

No more waving the White Flag Roger, yes I've found the Maple Leaf. I'd like to thank the U.S. Masters official Website, for that.

    See link to Website below:

The Masters 2021 at Augusta National

I have just checked the Masters Field, and the only Golfer in the "Fantasy" Field that won't be "Teeing" it up on Thursday, is Rickie Fowler.

Fowler had to win the Texas Open, to gain entry into the Masters.

Although playing reasonably well in the Tournament, won by Jordan Spieth, this will be the first time since 2010, that Fowler won't be playing, at Augusta.

My Son, ANTONYBR7, had image.png.0f86f7a176af1a4fe60bdf55f98f6681.pngRICKIE FOWLER in his "Team" of 12 Golfers, so I will choose image.png.35d9eecd645c4b91ec0bcdd3b71cb1df.pngMATT KUCHAR, as his Substitute.

If there are any further withdrawals, as long as it's before 9 P.M. on Wednesday Evening, an Entrant can Substitute another Golfer, from the same World Zone, in the same Group.

Once the 9 P.M. deadline has expired any late withdrawals, will result in an Entrant being placed on the next available Golfer, from the same World Zone, in the same Group. Should there be no more available Golfers from that World Zone, you will be placed on the next available  Golfer, in the Group below.

On Wednesday Morning I will post up the 1st Round Tee Times of the remaining 47 Golfers, in the "Fantasy" Field.

    Regards,

    Tom. 👍 🏌️‍♂️
