The biggest danger is that the Aussie trade deal, as is, sets a dangerous precedent for all forthcoming deals with major agricultural powers that are a lot closer to our shores and with a lot more political clout (looking at you North America in particular...).  They've set the bar so low that those countries are going to demand the same, or else, as we've no bargaining power nowadays being outside of any major trading block.  No wonder the Australian PM was delighted with the deal, if our negotiators were strategic thinkers the Aussie deal was the one where they should had held out for a good deal, to give some negotiating leverage for the tougher deals to come with the likes of the USA.  You just have to look at the mess in many African countries regarding food sovereignty to see how things could well end up here.

As for the weather, overcast to start with but skies cleared a bit from 11am to allow some sunny intervals.  Temperatures responding, up to a humid 20c now with light winds.

Actually I am hoping the weather will be our saviour as many areas of the world are experiencing drought .Parts of the midwest which my son watches online are really hot already. Hopefully we will  be one of the last areas to see crops fail as the world warms.

To be honest food prices too have only one way to go and thats up as all our input costs are rocketing and even the supermarkets will not be able to keep a lid on that as the option to  source from abroad more cheaply recedes due to climate change and the UK with very few  genuine friends in the world. Add in covid and you have the perfect storm where just in time delivery fails to supply the market.

On a weather note its dull  and cool (9c) this morning and we had some nice moderate rain yesterday afternoon and early evening, crops just lapping it up. This rain is probbably worth a four figure sum to me especially the spring barley which was starting to burn on the gravelly hillocks.

Had a good 10 hour dollop of rain yesterday so that gonna make it a relatively dry june now rather than a very dry june but looks likely that be our last meaningful rain for the rest of the month (unless we get any today)

Its raining again just showers and temperature back to 10c will harden a lot of soft growth. Neeps loking great this morning with the drink, cattle are the only ones looking a bit miserable but hopefully high pressure is on its wayback. The amount of rain we have had is not much as grass bouts not even wet through.

After an exceptionally dry April in NE Fife (6% of the monthly average rainfall) and exceptionally wet May (295% of the monthly average), June had been very dry up to yesterday when we received around 15mm of rainfall. Today has been mostly cloudy and feeling decidedly cool in the gusty NE wind with a mid-afternoon temperature of 13c. Bring back summer, please!

Ha ha ha Hancock. Another big hypocrite was yesterday's weather; dull and damp all day and then suddenly cleared to a beautiful evening of clear sky and sunshine, promising a lovely day today. Did it happen? No, of course it didn't. Off to buy pigs today, which should be fun.

Temperature 13.8deg.C up from a minimum of 8.7deg.C at 00:56, humidity is 75%, wind 0 to 2mph northerly, pressure is 1025.3hPa steady, there's been no rain today and the cloud cover is 8/8.

This morning the sky was completely overcast, the wind was non-existent and humidity was above 80% for the most part, and so it felt quite clammy out. The cloud has now started breaking and humidity is down so although there's still no wind it doesn't feel as sticky as it did earlier.

Temperature 21.6deg.C (max. for the day) up from a minimum of 11.6deg.C at 04:10, humidity is 62%, wind is 0mph, pressure is 1020.8hPa falling slowly, there's been no rain in the last 24 hours and cloud cover is 6/8.

A mixed but improving picture the last few days.

Friday was October in June, damp and a max of 11c.

Yesterday mainly overcast with some breaks in the cloud shield in the evening and a max of 14c.

Today, summer returned.

A lot of cloud but some breaks in the cloud allowing the sun to raise the temperature to a lovely feeling 20c.  Light winds and dry, soil already dry in the top 1.5cm, even though there was about 12 hours of rain Thursday night/Friday morning.

The rain did wonders for the plants though, the orchids are now in full bloom...

a.thumb.jpg.2e927cff5fdd4ce04f0494214539c3ae.jpg

And the mainly dry weather recently has made it a good year for violas..

It's amazing how good the photos are from £300 phones these days.

Edit - what a gorgeous sunset when we left one of our friends just now.  Their local rookery has had a good breeding season!

Curious little feature over the capital this morning. Isolated and stationary line of showers. Likely a sea breeze front I think?

Stunning display of Noctilucent clouds last night, photos from 1am.

Lovely sunny start to the day, light winds and some high level cloud, but that will just make the sunshine hazy at most.

Going to be a warm day, already 15c.

The muggy muck from the last few days appears to have buggered off somewhere else for now leaving a lovely sunny day behind, which is nice as I've got things my daughter wants done up at the farm and it will be nice to have some decent weather for that.

Temperature 21.4deg.C up from a minimum of 8.6deg.C at 04:38, humidity is 62%, wind is 2 to 4mph northwesterly, pressure 1019.5hPa falling slowly, there's been no rain in the last 24 hours and cloud cover is 1/8 thin and high.

Not often Glasgow Airport is one of the hottest places in Britain but I can confirm it’s pretty glorious here a few miles away in the south side. Great visibility from a nearby hill up to the Highlands as well.

While my daughter through in Glasgow is out sunbathing here it is disappointingly cool and dull with a few spits and spots of rain about. 16.1C now.

What a great day! Pigs have arrived at the farm and are settling in, the weather there was glorious, the fields are full of wild flowers that I hope are keeping the sheep happy, and the dug was in playful mode. Altogether a delightful visit. I've decided to call the pigs Ham and Bacon. Was talking to the farmer who delivered the snorkers and he has four more sheep and a Highland cow and calf he "could let me have for a good price". Whether that's a good price for him or me has yet to be agreed. On a separate note, the field next to ours is apparently also available...

Temperature maxed out at 21.8deg.C at 13:58, humidity dropped to 51% at 15:57, the wind remained very light and the sky has remained very largely clear all day. This is my idea of a perfect summer.

A lot of low cloud this morning, only now starting to break up.

Currently 15c with light variable winds.

Got relatives over in Alberta Canada, the heat there at the moment is astonishing - they had 38c yesterday, which is record for their town, elsewhere it got up to 47.9c!
