It's a stuck record, but at least it's a classic hit.

Another gorgeous dry and sunny day, though Cumulus cloud has been bubbling up for the last hour or so making it more sunny intervals rather than the unbroken sun of the morning.

Peak temperature of 18.8c, now dropped to 17.7c thanks to the cloud.

More lovely Cirrus around, complete with Rook (they have had a good breeding season going  by the racket coming from the local Rookery).

Despite the great weather (couple of cloudy days among the sunnier ones but lovely nonetheless) it wasn’t difficult to imagine how wild it must be up there in stormy weather. The landscape commands respect. Highlight was walking up to a cliff face and having 4 white-tailed eagles take off from underneath us. Spotted a whale 30 minutes after that. Will definitely be back. A few photos below.

Now back home in Pittenweem and the sun is shining!

It was a very tough life out there in those days. Both my great grandfathers on my dads side drowned at sea. The one near Eoropie was 28 and the other in his thirties a few years later off Port of Ness. My Gran was not born when he drowned and the was no social security to look after you then.

Meanwhile here a glorious Summer morning and feeling much warmer than the shade temp of 18C indicated. Now sunny at 19.5C with a few fair weather clouds and a gentle southerly breeze. Forecast says it is going to cloud over in the afternoon unfortunately.

Bliss.

High of 22.3c, now 21.0c.  Fresh to strong SE breeze, variable cloud.

Just wish the kids would give you more than 5 mins uninterrupted time to enjoy it!

Didn't cloud over as much as forecast this afternoon and the max crept up to 20.1C which I think is my first +20C of the year amazingly enough.

Been a decent if predominately overcast sort of a day but what's really noticeable is the rate of growth in the garden. The wild areas (i.e. the bits that are wild on purpose,) are bursting into colour right now due I guess to the ample quantities of heat, sunshine and rainfall that we've had recently.

Temperature currently the maximum for the day at 18.5deg.C up from a minimum of 6.5deg.C at 04:22, humidity is 69%, wind is 2 to 8mph southeasterly, pressure is 1023.7hPa steady, there's been no rain the the last 24 hours and cloud cover is 7/8.

Morning started off fine enough with plenty of sunshine, allowing things to warm up to 18.5c by 11am.

Then the cloud bubbled up (now 100% cloud cover), which combined with a brisk SE wind has allowed the temperature to drop to 16c (and continuing to drop).

So overall a much cooler feeling day than of late, though the dry theme continues.

Wood Pigeons are well fed round here, other half keeps mentioning pigeon pie but I'll pass on that thank you

Afternoon all!

Hope everyone is well.

Let’s start with the month of May!

Mean temperature - very cool/chilly month overall.

Rainfall amount - Very wet for many of us.

Sunshine duration - below average/dull for most.

May was also another well below average month (mean temperature) for Scotland! That is now four for us in total. (Three of those well below)

Only March has been above average this year!

Current weather/week ahead…best of the sunshine/warmth will be in parts of the N/NE/E/SE!

Western parts more at risk of cloud and some rain/drizzle - midweek especially.
Feeling warm though throughout and lovely when the sun is shining!

Few GFS temperature snapshots for next week - Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. (All 15:00)

Never to be trusted of course but fits in with the general theme/outlook.

Quick look at the latest seasonal outlooks.

Met Office Summer forecast.

Near average temperatures/rainfall overall.

Latest ECM seasonal outlook - temperature and rainfall anomaly below.

July: Temperatures average to slightly above and average rainfall.

August: More of the same!

So a pretty average Summer forecast overall for us - nothing nasty lurking with regards to above average rainfall or below average temperatures!

We all know not to take these seasonal forecasts as gospel…but always worth a wee glance/read at least for any season of the year.

All the best!

Lovely afternoon indeed. Much better than last couple of days (had a small heavy shower yesterday) even a little bit of drizzle last night but looks like maybe a up and down week?

Today started off well enough with maybe 3/8 cloud cover and coolish but the cloud steadily disappeared through the day and the temperature increased, while a steady but light southeasterly breeze stopped it feeling stuffy.

Maximum temperature was 18.6deg.C at 16:49 up from a minimum of 6.6deg.C at 04:26, maximum humidity was 93% at o4:36 and the minimum was 47% at 18:14, maximum wind speed was 9mph at 16:20 but generally is was 2 to 5mph southeasterly, pressure has been around 1027.0hPa steady all day, there was 0.2mm of rain that fell in the early hours of this morning, and cloud cover has reduced steadily to 0/8 this evening.

It's a beautiful morning, which I would be out enjoying if my cleaners weren't due in an hour so I'm stuck in tidying up. However, the sun is shining, the sky is mainly clear and it looks like being a great day, so I'll get out later.

Temperature got down to 6.6deg.C at 00:24 and is now up to 18.1deg.C, humidity is 54%, wind is 0 to 3mph southerly, pressure is at 1023.8hPa steady, there's been no rain in the last 24 hours and cloud cover is 3/8 but high, thin and wispy.

Warm humid evening some neeps through in 5 days. Growth charging on.. Sleep getting hard to come by at night however. An hour ago just happened to look over garden wall into cattle field and saw about 50m away a beautiful dog fox being highlighted by the sun.Cows suddenly became aware of him and all the ears went up as he trotted down the field next to the fence.

The settled theme continues for another week.

The Haar made inroads yesterday, thick enough at Westhill to switch on the windscreen wipers.

It was brighter here from mid-afternoon and the evening provided a nice kaleidoscope of cloud types...

c.thumb.jpg.a63d331af1f7fd97014127431b982e7e.jpgb.thumb.jpg.65d22bbd686dc313a699e76150c054c4.jpga.thumb.jpg.44637ad2eae498d5e1767eb1b151ae3e.jpg

Mist first thing today but then sunny.  As per the last week, the cloud has bubbled up and now it's mainly overcast.

Warm though, currently 19c with light winds.

Soil is getting really dry now, I suspect the farmers round here will be starting their rain dance soon.

No real darkness at night as others have mentioned, love the colours you get in the twilight, this is from 2am...

night.thumb.jpg.980ef596f6ceef5ece933d9fbb17a03b.jpg

No noctilucent clouds so far this season unfortunately.

Afternoon all! Been ages since I last looked in here. Had family up for a visit so was making the most of the company! Might not get another chance! Had both jags now so am safe ( ish!). Had some mixture of weather recently but we have now settled back down to slightly gloomy, muggy and a wee bit chilly. Certainly not the temperatures we've had recently. I was to be found seated outside wi' a wee G n T during the last few weeks. Now I'm wearing a fleece and pondering whether I should light the fire or not! Rain forecast over the next few days so at least I won't have to water the veggies!

Place is also crawling with the usual summer scourge, no, not midges, Campervans. And hunners o' motor bikes. It's not even peak season yet, so am dreading July and August.

Ah well, I could always go into hibernation earlier than normal I suppose.

Used to work in that area many moons ago.

Lovely scenery, hooching with tourists in the summer but I'm afraid you'll find yourself on the wrong side of marginal for snow most of the time at that altitude.

It's surprisingly mild on the west coast (palm trees in Ullapool etc) and you really need a lot of altitude for proper snow - many times I've seen lying snow at the Braemore Junction but it's completely clear by Inverlael.

What you'll get instead is rain, and a lot more of it compared to what you are used to in Aberdeenshire.

Love the area though, when the weather's nice it's stunning, and almost uniquely for that part of the west coast you have good communication links thanks to the Stornoway Ferry at Ullapool - by car the A835 will get you to Inverness in just over an hour, plus there is a regular bus service on it.

As for the weather, shocked to see some rain falling just now.  Just enough to wet the surfaces but breaks the near two week dry spell.  Warm, currently 16.9c even though it's completely overcast.  Light winds.

Very mild overnight, never below 15c!

Some nice cloudscapes first thing this morning...

b.thumb.jpg.e6d2f243c781d6bacb9d6acc6864065d.jpga.thumb.jpg.7cec5b11eb171cc90d70eaa9898fdcc7.jpg

However, as per the usual pattern recently the cloud has bubbled up and it's now mainly overcast with a few transitory brighter periods.

Wind has picked up in the last few hours, now strong and gusty from the S/SSW.  It's a damaging wind as there is a lot of fresh, young soft growth around and already lost a branch of a climbing rose.

Irrespective of the wind its a very respectable 20c just now.
