Hills in all directions from here are white to low levels for early May - I'd say around 300m. It's also still pretty cold!!

The local cafe is open again so wandered down there for some lentil soup and a bacon roll (delicious!) and then wandered back home, both journeys being very pleasant in the sun.

Maximum temperature today was 12.2deg.C at 12:41 up from a minimum of 1.4deg.C at 02:52 and currently 10.4deg.C, humidity is 59%, wind very light at 0 to 5mph west-northwesterly, pressure is 1016.3hPa steady, there's been 2.0mm of rain in the last 24 hours but none of it today, and cloud cover is 4/8.

-0.5C overnight making it air frost seventy three.

Here's Broad Law and Dollar Law this afternoon @Mr Frost taken from about 12 miles away up by Broughton Heights.

And the wider, non zoom view - maybe a 500m snowline:

Luckily for the S1 pupil who burnt his Apple Crumble it was decent weather for the whole school to be stood on the playing fields mid afternoon. It actually felt warm, at least in the side of the body facing the sun. If he'd done it earlier in the week he'd have been rather unpopular.

Actually saw the car temp gauge get into double figures, just, on my drive home.

After a sunny morning more wintry showers formed over the inland hills. In any sunny spells the sun was warm especially as the wind had gone down.

The surrounding fields are now starting to noticeably green up, though the lawn is still a disaster zone so the lawnmower will be unused for a week or two yet.

Ain't that the truth! Mud, stones, twigs - but not a lot of grass!

Seventy fourth and maybe the final air frost of the season at -1.8°C? Wind and smirry rain this morning...

Cattle finally out full time as frost risk and northerly winds   ( we are very exposed to the north) seem to absent from  the forecast. Just two hours after they went out the rain came on   Currently  7c so not that warm yet

What a lovely sight. The grass growth looks not too bad considering the low temps for most of the past 5 months or so .  We had a bit of spring like conditions today and felt some warmth at long last. A gradual drip going on but still 90% snow cover.

Spoiler

In the last 14 years we have gone back to adding red clover to grass seed mixtures to fix nitrogen from the atmosphere instead of using artificial nitrogen (made from oil) thus lowering our carbon  footprint .However clover needs warm growing conditions and so grass is about a month later to come to cutting/grazing , whereas artificial nitrogen is immediately available to the grass even in very cold weather. White clover has always been in grass seed mixtures and is very long lived but red clover which is much better yielding was  not very persistant in the field but modern varieties are surviving for up to four years instead of about two.

The field you see in the photo was sown in grass in 2018 when the exceptionally dry summer killed a lot of the young clover plants so there is very little clover. Thus we relented about 2 weeks ago and put on artificial nitrogen to get an early bite and got an immediate change of colour and about 4 inches of new growth. This grass will be very short of minerals and energy due to the cold so cattle are being fed silage  (pickled grass )as well made last summer.

Lots of interesting stuff about grass and clover.

Very interesting, the grazing around here isn't showing much sign of fresh growth at all so far.

Our neighbour has also had a terrible time lambing - the persistent cold and wet not doing them any good at all.

Hopefully a bit of warmth this week will help on both counts.

Maybe the really cold nights are done, at least for now. I see minima at 7C or above for more nights than not for the next week of so.

It seems strange to have only had to cut our grass (lawn) once so far by now.  I'm glad we don't have hungry flocks or herds to feed.

I have had to cut the grass only once here too so far this Spring but I think that is about to change with a bit more warmth (not anything above average though) and plenty showers to come this week. Today hit a max of 12.2C with some hefty showers around in a strong Southerly wind. Still around 11C now.

After yesterday's miserable grey wet affair, today marked the arrival of something that passed for spring/early summer.

A few fleeting rain showers but of nuisance value only, sunny spells (mainly morning/late evening) and light winds.

Finally though temperatures back in double figures, with a max of 14.5c.  Even now its 8.9c, which is higher than the max for the whole of last week.

Nature responding as a noticeable increase in bird song today, plus the House Martins have arrived in force with 5 of them swooping around the buildings here all day.  Fascinating how each year you see a solitary one or two of them arrive weeks before the main surge in numbers.

Always nice to see Cirrus clouds....

Nice round of Golf this morning  at Inchmarlo just outside Banchory. Actually felt like spring was finally in the air with T-shirt weather for the best part. The course is still way behind though - winter greens in play still on a number of holes as the main greens are very bare. Undergrowth is stunted and the trees are way behind. Only plus is that wayward shots missing the fairway are easier to find due to lack of greenery and growth. And I had a few of them today .

You are just a wee bit higher than us and possibly further from the seas influence and outside  lambing would purposefully been delayed to late April early May for hopefully better weather.Putting early Nitrogen on is a gamble too as if growth is not happening properly then it can be washed away before the plant can get hold of it and causes all sorts of issues in waterways.

Much milder today even warm in any sun between the showers in the afternoon with the odd cow lying flat out on her side. Currently 7c
