Completely clear and blue. Blissful afternoon. Very slight breeze making it just about perfect (and yes there's more of this to come)

Winter seems to be well gone here. It's a beautiful day with wall to wall sunshine, blue sky and just a hint of a breeze. Just the sort of day that empties a fridge of beer.

Temperature currently 14.8deg.C, max for the day so far, up from a minimum of 4.0deg.C at 06:27, humidity is 41%, wind is 0 to 2mph northwesterly, pressure is 1025.9 falling slowly, there's been no rain in the last 24 hours and cloud cover is 0/8.

So, fellow Scottish thread mafia - here's an idea netweather towers are interested to hear your views on:

There's always lots of activity in the place-based threads (English regions, Scotland, Wales and Ireland) and maybe it's time to look at giving these areas a bit more space to grow. With improved forum software we want to relocate the Scottish thread, as a trial for a month, into the soon to be renamed 'clubs' section (it will be called groups) using new improved forum software. This will mean we can look at having a Scottish gallery, perhaps more than a single thread (for instance could have threads for regional severe events, or maybe historical stuff and so on). We could even use mapping to allow members to put yourselves on a map, and maybe use it to encourage meet ups and the like.

Are the regular Scottish thread spring posters and visitors up for giving this a try whilst it's not too busy - and seeing how that feels? Thoughts?

Sounds good, like the idea of the separate bits for the more extreme events (storms, BFTE etc) might make it a bit easier to go back and find them map idea is interesting too.

@shuggee Seems like a good idea and worth a try.

Beautiful day here with plentiful sun although the temperature sat on 8c or 9c for much of the afternoon.

It would also help in very busy times like the snowy spell in February. Separate threads could prevent some perhaps interesting or different  posts getting lost in the traffic. Also a sub thread for photos would be good.

Lovely sunny day.

Light winds but feeling cool out of the sun, reflected in the max temperature of 11c.

Temperature dropping fast this evening, already 4c so a frost incoming.

Local fields finally showing a hint of green, this was sown about a month ago.

Surprised to see the streams there were dry, as yesterday was quite wet for a time.

As for forum, always good to try something new but it must retain the ability to drag and drop photos into posts otherwise posting becomes a lot more onerous.  Keep it simple!

Very similar here with a max of 11.3C and feeling warm in the sunshine but in the shade feeling cool. Min this morning of 1.3C. Temp falling away quickly now since sunset at 7.3C.
Was nice down by the river this afternoon at low tide.
Ps. Is this early for ducklings to be about?

Can anyone help me put into context just how dry this April has been relative to recent years?

The UK weather on BBC mentioned Scotland's April rainfall being 25% of normal. However that doesn't tell the whole story as parts of the SE in particular have been very dry. The local forecast on Reporting Scotland quoted three very low totals, the most noticeable being in Edinburgh with just 1% of normal.

STV weather also mentioned how dry it had been in April, so I assume MetO must have released some statistics today. Here it's not been a case of 'April showers', but more a case of 'April shower' (singular).

Yes to the new idea but somebody will have to point me to it or I'll get lost and start wandering around the forum shouting Help.

Was colder yesterday there was a wee bit of a wind, but wall to wall sunshine blasting down here already this morning .

0c start again with sunshine  and  some   wispy high cloud. Must have been one of the frostiest Aprils for ages. Grass growth very slow and it looks like it will be May before cattle will  go out full time.

Impressive rise in temperature in the last 3 hours - it was -0.2c at 9am (after a frigid, for April, overnight low of -2.9c) but now its 14.0c and rising.

All down to the strong wall to wall sunshine and light winds.

Met office forecast temperature utterly useless, they have a max for the day of 11c for here - the Norwegian Met Office have a more plausible 15c max.

In terms of weather forecasting, I vote for the Norwegians to take over!

Bright sunshine, cloudless blue sky, bordering on really quite warm; what's not to like?

Temperature 14.2deg.C, max so far today up from a minimum of 0.7deg.C at 04:49, humidity is 52%, wind 0 to 5mph south-southwesterly, pressure 1029.3hPa steady, no rain in the last 24 hours and not a cloud in the sky.

any other ideas for threads?

we've had photo gallery mentioned, big events such as BftE or high impact storms, to allow finding those more easily. Would some kind of temperature/rainfall extremes / climate figures thread be worthwhile?

More can always be added but for the trial...

The only difference between yesterday and today was more high cloud (and might be the same tomorrow) but as you we're regarding the sun and dry weather

Edinburgh Gogarbank on 1.8mm for the month so far. Leuchars just 0.4mm for April to date. It’s very dry here in the East Neuk.

Another lovely day. Minimum was 3.5c and maximum 13c here in Pittenweem but in more sheltered Leuchars the temperature range was -1.6c to 16c.

With what seems to me a very traditional spring happening up here  I"ll    just pop this post in here I put on the Farming Forum about climate movement. Please feel free to move if in wrong thread.

"In my opinion governments round the world have just witnessed a unique experiment in the last year due to the virus with all forms of transport severely curtailed round the world. (Its great to see the intense colours of the sky with my old eyes and no contrails) This has resulted in the loss of of the brown ring of pollution at the edge of earths atmosphere allowing more heat to be radiated to space. This happened also in the few days after 9/11 when photos from space showed the brown ring of pollution replaced by a white ring. (283,000 aircraft worldwide flying at any one time no longer in the sky)

Also I feel because of this effect we have witnessd more defined seasons in the last year especially up here in the north of Scotland with superb  growing summer(lifetime best ever yields)  a proper autumn and a winter with the deep cold in January/February. followed by a  cold traditional spring as I remember during my childhood in the sixties. Remember the tenanted term date is the end of May in Scotland to allow completion  of crop sowing so springs in the past were usually late up here in the last few hundred years

This I think is the reason that the Biden team are quietly working away to make climate a top priority. My daughter who has a phd in Astrophysics does not disagree with me. I know this theorey  will not be popular with the aviation industry but already France has said that virus financial help will  have conditions attached. The main one being all internal flights with a train equivalent alternative are to be banned."

Ended up with a max of 16c yesterday, very acceptable and a impressive diurnal range of 18.9c.

Cloud started to roll in from the north in the evening, allowing a nice sunset....

sunset.thumb.jpg.2cc4be05b3682a4252ef2f550a530926.jpg

Cloudy overnight so no frost.

Currently 8.5c with cloud thinning to allow hazy sunshine, light winds.
