Scotland/Alba weather discussion - March 2021 onwards

Just went for a shorter walk up in Dronley woods just North West of Dundee. Caught the edge of a couple of heavy snow showers which left the ground both to the West and to the NE white.

0c start to the day with snow in shaded areas from yesterday lasting overnight. This was topped up this afternoon by more moderate snow showers.  This makes four days this week we have had falling snow. Have to  go  back to  April 1968 for a larger number of days of falling snow in a week.

Yesterday evening the last shower settled on the conifers to the south of us and stayed till mid morning an indication of how cold it is.

Ben More in Sutherland finally visible after two days of constant snow looking very white. There were four days in early May last year when it was as white so hills have a lot of snow chances yet

 

Snow /hail  still lying along north facing wall of steading 24 hours later.

 

 

A snow shower to the east of us.

 

Mrs Northernlights said she had a real midwinter walk in the woods first thing  this morning with the dog with hail / snow on the ground.

Snow in the spring is really magical in my opinion with the strong light enhancing the intense colours of the sky and clouds which seem even sharper in  this year of covid.

Wet snow shower here just now. Went for an early walk this morning in the Cathkin Braes. Great views for miles in many directions. 

Towards the city centre and the hills beyond. The Ochils in the background of the edge of The Campsies. Ben Lomond & west towards Arran. 

The snow has turned to heavy hail and covering the cars. Been a great day for weather!

Haha similar here although really just getting going. Gutters are overflowing with hail!

I've never seen so much hail/graupel in our gutters!

Yes, the sky to the East (towards you) had gone very dark now, while the sky to the west is still hanging on to some blue patches. Forecast is for snow tonight though.

Temperature now 2.9deg.C, humidity is 78%, wind is 2 to 4mph northwesterly and the dew point is at -1deg.C so snow is possible I suppose.

I remember it snowing in May a few years ago.  Snows most Aprils I reckon. When it does settle its very slushy.

Just on the very edge of that shower. Mix of graupel and snow. Didn’t last long but just visible on the grass.

I do remember lying Snow at end of April 2016.. And I think it was last April rain turned to snow just at the tail end of a cold front after a reasonably warm day before the front came through during the night with dramatic change in temperature.
As for today been dry where I am although dark clouds were near around teatime. I assume that’s the snow everybody else got.

Oh and we had graupel, snow, hail, call it wtf you want, cold white stuff on and off all day.
