22mm rain here last night, rain finally cleared apart from bits drizzle, sleety at times with temperatures dropping away to 2.9c with a biting ne wind.  Was south on business yesterday in Nw and it was like a summers day.  Off to dig the snow shovel out for Easter...

Today's conundrum - what do you use to dig out a snow shovel?!

Evening all!

Fair play to @Northernlights - he has been talking/musing about a cold April spell for weeks! Nailed it!

Easter Sunday (afternoon/evening) cold/wintry showers arrive.

UKMO Easter Monday - absolutely stunning charts! Snowfall to sea level!

06/04 - not too bad either!

Most of next week looks cold with further wintry outbreaks.

Planning Outlook

Fine and fairly warm into the Easter Weekend, but on Sunday bitterly cold air from deep within the Arctic will surge southwards into Scotland, penetrating all mountain areas by dawn on Monday. Higher areas then sub-freezing most of next week, and snow and hail showers widespread. One or two areas of persistent snow will move southeastwards giving substantial falls in places - sometimes lying into the valleys.

Met Office outlook:

I am ready for warmth/heat...but you can never say no to a cold/frosty spell of weather with the risk of wintry showers/snowfall!

All the best to you all!

A cloudy day here with the temperature slowly dropping in an increasingly cool NE wind.  Temp dropped from 12.5C overnight to 6C now. Mostly dry with just a few spits and spots at times this afternoon.

I think part of the reason I was expecting a cold April is that the last few have been fairly good so due a change. Also personally think we have seen  more defined seasons in the last 12 months which I put down to lack of pollution from ground and air sources.

The above  would lead to more late season snowfall in spring which the north of Scotland saw more frequently in the fifties and sixties so in effect we are gong back to traditional  spring weather. One of the best views from here is when a northerly system begins to fade in the spring leaving snow showers on the horizon to the NE over the North Sea. The late evening sunset often highlights these showers in pink making them even more spectacular. I have even seen  them around 21st June midsummers day.

With  what must be some Norse blood in my veins  due to my surname  I see these showers as winter retreating to the North.

Currently clear starry sky and 2c with grass crisping up.

We have 3.5C right on the coast so frosts nearly everywhere else I guess...

Temperature wise, the maximum today was 10.2c - at 12:04am!!

Since then it has been a continual steady drop to the current 3.0c.

Rain started at 7am and continued all day, only letting up around 7pm.

Winds generally light but felt cold irrespective.

G'morning Peeplings! Wall to wall sunshine here! ☀️ A massive change from the last four days rain we've had here. I've now sent the rain clouds south to save you all from drought. Temp dropped to 1.4c here last night. Weekend looks like an interesting mix, everything being thrown in to the bag! I wonder if we'll actually get any white stuff lying here. With any luck it'll dust the mountains only. That would do for me!

Date records for low max temps could well be smashed on Monday. BBC going for max 2 degrees Aberdeen, indeed below freezing much of the day. Exceptional!

Must be a error as Braemar forecast a max of 3c and let’s face it’ll be much colder up there ❄️

Overnight low of -0.8c and currently 3c.

Nice sunrise this morning, but that has been the extent of the sunshine, now light grey Permagloom™.

Babysitting a Border Collie puppy for the next few days (9 months old) and just 2 hrs in I'm exhausted.  My goodness they are a pocket rocket of energy and completely possessed when they are concentrating on a toy!  I can understand now how they can wreck a house in a hour, thank goodness this one takes to a crate well to calm down between play sessions.

My last dog was a German shepherd collie cross she was a rescue pup, when we went to see them all the rest were running round playing but she took an immediate interest in chewing on my hand like u say so energetic

Decent day but not a huge amount of sun. Pleasant though at about 15c with that stiff breeze finally easing off! Charts appear to be showing something potentially wintry after Easter. Not unusual for the time of year (I'm ignoring charts showing -20c 850's over Scotland for now ) but got me thinking back to April 2018. A good few days for many on the thread. Great fun reading back through the posts

2 April 2018:

I particularly remember this day as I had to check how to apply the 9am criteria for declaring a met office standard 'snow day', and the consensus was it was 9am GMT so actually 10am BST.

This morning was overcast and a bit chilly, only hitting 8.2deg.C at noon, but then this afternoon the sky cleared, wall to wall sunshine ensued and we got up to 10.8deg.C at 17:00. Spent a while up at the farm and found some chickens. I think they are trying to escape, which is disappointing as we've only just met.

Temperature 6.8deg.C up from a minimum of 3.4deg.C at 06:49, humidity is 69%, wind 0 to 2mph northwesterly, pressure is 1033.5hPa rising slowly, there's been no rain in the last 24 hours and the sky is currently clear of cloud.

Cooler today but the sunshine made up for it. Actually made it up to over 9C around lunchtime but falling away quickly now. These dogs that I passed this afternoon didn't look like they would feel the cold.
