At the moment it's looking interesting whether it will disappear on the next run as a lot do or just get the normal day to day downgrade remains to be seen. To be name or not to be named is the next question.

There seems to be more consistency during the early hours of Thursday for a possible gale rather than Tuesday and Wednesday

Things delayed slightly on tonight's reduces the winds during Tuesday run but Wednesday night still the main fun night for us with winds easing only very slowly through Thursday. Local forecast not showing anything of note for us so it's going to be interesting. In the past they have been right so we shall see.  No warnings yet from the met office.

Arpege, XC Weather both showing 60mph plus gusts for us... Met not so strong but aren't they known for underestimating wind speed in storms a little?

These developing runners can be very nasty affairs. 18z GFS intensifies things a tad with 80-90 mph gusts around the Welsh coasts. Those sort of numbers would be verging on red warning, danger to life territory.

Quiet a long spell of breezy weather Tuesday night into Thursday. No real change overnight runs no warnings yet from met office and the morning forecast brushed quickly over it so probably low confidence at the moment.  Just a waiting game now too see what tweaks the models give. Interesting so far that only late Tuesday has been downgraded from earlier runs.

Hopefully it moves a bit further north. There hasn't been any stormy weather here since halloween.

Title really needs changing slightly now to  Wednesday into Thursday. Slight downgrade tonight something to keep an eye on so could still disappear into nothing of interest. Interestingly local forecast has upped the speeds.

Since we've only had one gust up to 50mph in the last 14 months we are due a little action.

Latest GFS downgrades it further and moves it slightly further north. Probably looking on the day at 50 mph at the most more likely 45mph top gusts for here. Most of the action in the west see gusts 60mph to 65mph while Western Ireland 70mph.

Another slight upgrade tonight runs showing higher gusts across the region. Time will tell of course.

This storm deepened explosively in the western Atlantic overnight (local time) and by 18z (about 3 p.m. local time) had reached 972 mbs at 48N 40W.

A large oil tanker, the STI Mystery, apparently headed east was overtaken by the storm around 06z and a navigation app shows it turning abruptly to southwest heading (into the wind) and then in an arc around to the northwest, making a brief attempt to return to eastward travel, then turning around and heading west into 85 knot winds (it reported these anyway, probably from about 100 ft above the sea but with 10 metre waves, that would be more like 50 to 100 feet. Apparently it has stayed afloat and now has only 45 knot winds as the storm moves away to the east and it makes very slow progress west, probably trying to reach St John's Newfoundland for repairs or maybe get closer to potential rescuers if disabled?

This is the vessel in question

Reports at 16z and 17z from them said winds 240 at 85 and 84 knots.

I don't think the storm will be that strong for Northern Ireland or Scotland, Wales etc but worth a close watch, 85 knots is cat-2 hurricane intensity.

Currently thinking this storm may (a) need a name and ( b) get upgraded to higher alert levels, it's coming in at a direct hit trajectory rather than the usual swerve towards the Hebrides. expect gusts to 80 mph in exposed areas of Ireland and western UK, battering waves and some overtopping of seawalls at high tides. Everything's relative, it does weaken from current intensity in mid-Atlantic but if it didn't do that it would be a top ten historic windstorm so there's some room for it to weaken without leaving the serious windstorm range. Peak impacts will be from late afternoon Wednesday to early morning hours Thursday. Storm would be "Evert" if they scramble a name in time, if not, we'll be hearing a lot of "this was worse than any named storm" commentary.

Winds picking up here we have avoided all the excitement in over a year wind wise bar one gust hitting 50 mph last week. So we are over due a bit of a blow.

Gusts to 141 km/hr reported at Kinsale energy platform off the coast of Cork, this at around 50m above sea, 117 km/hr max gust so far at land stations of met.ie, 127 at an unofficial land station. Looks like core of strong winds heading for south Wales with peak likely around 0300-0500h. Would also expect sharp windspeed increases further north when trough passes and rapid pressure rises begin, lee wave formation possible in northeast England.

Its very stormy here already in South wales. Trees making loud roaring noise. Rain slamming into the windows. Gusting about 65mph already. I am expecting a noisy night especially as it peaks at around 3 to 4am here.

just been out. It's Hellva windy, there are dustbin lids flying, and quite large pieces of litters being blown around. Real proper gusts, with roaring sounds. Maybe should have gotten an amber out of this

This is probably as strong a wind as I have experienced inland whilst living on the boat, perhaps it's the angle of the wind coming down from the hill being forced by the topography, but things are rocking an lot!!

Winds died down overnight and then started picking up at 04:00 once again. We did have a ten minute average 28mph while I went to the shops despite that only a 47mph gust.
