Good morning all,

It seems there's a lot more cloud around today which may keep a lid on temperatures but will still be a pleasant enough day

I used to think warm springs are a bad sign for summer due to how synoptic patterns might evolve (can the weather keep it up etc.) after 2007, 2011 and 2012 then the reverse in 2013.

However since then we've had some very prolonged decent weather both in spring and the following summer; 2014, 2017, 2018 and for here in Kent last year too.

To sum up:

When looking for patterns there will always be occasions which back up one's theory, but equally, there will be also be occasions which go against it!

Typical - loads of mid-level cloud which wasn’t even forecasted. I sometimes wonder if forecasters even look at the satellite images.

No chance of record going now.

What's with all this thick cloud coming up from the south? Today will be a major let down unless it suddenly fizzles out.

I think the March temperature record is going to fall.

Oh dear, currently cloudy over much of the south-east. That may well have destroyed our chances.

Well as today has shown the models can get it staggeringly wrong at just 18hrs out yet. Today is a complete fail across most of England with the 'unexpected cloud' that to be honest doesn't look like break at all. Hopefully more than enough time for next weeks cold plunge to be watered down.

Very disappointing. Forecasts were all falling for mainly sunny skies with some patchy cloud floating around. Instead there’s a large thick blanket of muck over much of the south which will keep temps suppressed. It’s 20c here but very hazy already. Be surprised if we get 23/24c here today at least.

Clouded over down here about 9am, after a bright start, and doesn't look like it's shifting anytime soon. MetOffice are even suggesting it will be thicker for a few hours before maybe burning back at 4/5pm.

Temps now 14C and 3C below where we were yesterday, satellite imagery shows the cloud not breaking and the back edge still a good 4-6hrs away from the south coast. So its probably a getting worse day for most in the south east.

Bring on the cold April, will keep all the COVIDiots indoors who were packing parks and beaches today. ?‍♂️

Whilst I see where you are coming from, at least they are outdoors getting some fresh air. The virus would spread more easily in a busy Tesco supermarket than it would outdoors in the open air.

MO agrees! They've put more cloud over us now, they've even knocked a couple of degrees off tomorrow's max temp too!

Again the Hi-res models have done a bad job just 18hs out. Even last night they were showing clear skies. The cloud sheet was clearly there before sunset last night, they could miss it, its like 30,000sq km. It seems like the models have a clear problem in being over optimistic in clearing mid level cloud from in and around the UK. It happened so many times last summer.

The BBC always suggested 'sunny spells' for today, the Met where all about the sun and the hot temps. I mean it's pretty much neither here, it's just cloudy, but I guess the BBC came the closest?

Saying that the Met Office is now showing light rain from 3pm? I know they are automatic updates but that seems a little off-piste?

Actually a better day than yesterday here so far- a much warmer start and pretty clear at the moment. Maybe the warmest place will be further north than expected today...

30 plus degrees if 3-4 months later ,would have been one of them rare 'hot' days, had early altocumulus castellanus that cleared from the SW

means a very hot day for time of year with big changes next day

Looks like we've managed to squeeze in another relatively warm day. Temperatures are forecast to be back to normal for the time of year from tomorrow. Next week however is looking fairly unsettled with typical April showers and temps below average. I love the erratic weather that Spring brings.

Woeful stuff from the BBC and Met Office - unless the cloud suddenly breaks through the afternoon and temperatures soar.

Met Office have just posted this tweet out...going for 25C today...

They are the experts so hopefully that turns out correct.

Kent, Sussex and Norfolk are looking pretty clear on the satellite. Norwich looks a good bet to be a hot spot at the moment

Indeed, there are a few 21C readings in East Anglia at present.

Yes, today is a lot cloudier than expected but still warm.  If this was high summer this would have translated to say 33-34 in London yesterday but a very humid 30c or so today no doubt with storms in places and a skyfull of beautiful castellanus

Yesterday evening the meto website said there would be some cloud around in the morning with sunny spells, and that the cloud would have cleared by midday. Its now saying the cloud will have cleared by 4pm. There's been no sunny spells this morning. We have another warm day for tomorrow on the south coast so hopefully the forecast for sunshine is correct. Its a bit of a let down but I've learn't not to trust them so that I won't be too dissapointed.
