Continuing the theme of sunshine and squally hailstorms today, after plenty through the night and early morning.

Fewer showers than yesterday with just a couple of showers so far, the last of which produced a nice rainbow. 8.0°C

Got some very squally winds through just then with torrential rain, weather station recorded a gust of 60mph and it isn't exactly elevated as much as it should be to get a spot on reading so maybe the gust was a little higher than that!

A few minutes of torrential rain just now and the wind sounded louder than the other night.

Sounds horrendous out there but the nearest station for wind gusts says 30mph (yesterday was 36mph). Food bin got blown down the road levels.

I am reliable informed the the tropopause fold is idndicated by the red shading on airmass imagery

Another wild day, several hail showers this morning but otherwise bright and dry overhead.

Beautiful anvil passing over now from the shower as shown on the radar grab.

Has anyone noticed the radar returns looking like this the last few windy showery days? Is it to do with the wind causing issues?

Quite a potent hail shower passing through here.  My amatuer video of it whilst waiting for the missus in my car;

Could see that cell moving in from further south in Clevedon (couldn’t not have the ice cream... you don’t like to be rude )

After yesterday’s total rain event of 23mm here the river Frome has responded more than I thought on my walk earlier with ‘Ollie’

Still sunny and pleasant but more Ci than earlier, particularly to the west, presumably courtesy of the approaching weak warm front

    Dubai Floods: Another Warning Sign for Desert Regions?

    The flooding in the Middle East desert city of Dubai earlier in the week followed record-breaking rainfall. It doesn't rain very often here like other desert areas, but like the deadly floods in Libya last year showed, these rain events are likely becoming more extreme due to global warming.
