The upper warm front as shown on the fax is limiting shower activity

Convection will get going once it fizzles out later tonight and into tomorrow

Convergence zones through Lincolnshire, one extending WSW from roughly Lowestoft/Gt Yarmouth and one through the Thames. Coastal areas should be a culminations regardless of being in these zones.

Hi i am in Sittingbourne. When you say North Kent is that Medway north?

Yes, I would go from about Sittingbourne across to Gravesend and Dartford.

BBC, Meto and Euro 4 all looking like 5pm onwards a build up of accumulations.

I would expect 10cm for some of us overnight, though it really will be the last gasp of this event.

Really as much as that in places! Is this the band showing on the Dutch radar?

looks like 21:00 landing North Kent if it is this.

Just as Met Office forecasts really.

They specifically said yesterday that they don't expect heavy snow in SE on Monday.

And yet they have us in the yellow snow warning zone!

Probably should have taken a few areas out of the warning earlier today ?

The MetO also said we were going to get significant disruptive snow Sunday night...

Snow is so much nowcasting compared to almost any other weather. Currently we have a set up forming that could lead to good streamers tonight.

Bit like Christmas Eve 2009. Or it may have been 2010.

Crazy cold here close to Central London currently -1.4°C this could be the coldest day I’ve ever recorded. It’s been snowing most of day but lightly according to UKV potentially something beefy from estuary later this evening..

Just been out sledging with the kids, we’ve got about 4/5cm’s here and none of the snow is melting, proper powder snow. Been light to moderate all morning.

Agree with you @Daniel* it is bitter. Just to illustrate the depth of cold, the SE/EA looks to be the coldest part of England if you discount areas at elevation. Widely -1c to -3c in our area:

Overcast with intermittent snow flurries here in N20, probably a 1cm still lying from last night. It's -0.4 now after a low of -1.6 overnight, hope it stays sub zero all day, that is such a rarity

It won't be everyone by any chance, especially not with the geographical area we cover on this board, but certainly looking in my back yard theres the best chance of the last couple of days coming up I think.

Could of course fizzle to nothing, but it is currently looking good.

Radar looking a bit sad at the moment but there are more opportunities being modelled for later this evening and tomorrow. Potential for a Thames streamer but it'll be hit and miss.

Arpege tomorrow morn:

The Central Belt in Scotland looks the place to be looking at that!

I've always classed north Kent from about Rochester/Chatham eastwards and Strood/Rochester Westwards to Dartford simply as NW Kent

In terms of snow streamers NE Winds nearly always in the past brought snow Chatham or Rochester Eastwards but rarely to the area between Strood and Gravesend

Need to also remember that the sea track in the north is usually far greater than our neck of the woods. More convection and beefier showers that move further inland before decaying.

We need this light snow to turn into some proper snow showers.... like they have north of the Wash. May happen later on and form into lines? I'm under the streamer near Cambridge now but its just really light snow that isn't really settling or turning anything new white.

Dumped another cm of snow making it 7 cm here. It doesn't look to be stopping all that too soon either.

Just a tad more up the road (9cm) with a few drifts of 0.5m around the garden

Radar returns further north look impressive and those showers are punching their way all the way over to the west. Hopefully it picks up again for us later.

That band of snow yesterday at midnight literally appeared out of nothing and pushed west across much of the region. Shows how dynamic the situation is and not to peg too much on the short range high res models.

Hit the nail on the head there zubzero. Our Region is stuck under a blanket of stratus giving just light intermittent snow, whilst further north the convective shower activity has pepped up and snow showers are pouring in off the North Sea. The latest satellite image illustrates it nicely:
