Awesome thunderstorm here in Ashford!! - From what looked to be a gust front with a wall cloud, turned into bright strikes, flooding rain and more!

Another East Sussex/Kent event. What do we have to do to get a decent thunderstorm in south west London? I think I’d have to go back to the amazing storms of May 2018 for the last decent nighttime storm.

Move house.

Plain rain here. A bit like expecting a three course meal and ending up with a stale cracker. As you can guess from all my food references, I am hungry

At this rate, I'm going to have to empty the rain gauge before I go to bed and again at about 3 a.m.

Heaviest rain here I've seen in a long while, persistent torrential convective deluge courtesy of cell training. Wouldn't be surprised to hear reports of flooding around here by the morning. the word 'tropical' springs to mind... Must be those high PWAT values!

Lightning every 2 seconds, huge shotgun bangs, power outages!

Looks like the East of the region and extreme SE are experiencing the thunder. Here in NW London the skies have cleared and the rain has stopped.

In one hour I recorded 26.6mm of rain, maximum rainfall rate was 64mm per hour at one point!

It's an absolute myth that the channel kills off storms in summer. These storms pepped up over the sea and affected only south and east Kent and the far east of Sussex. Plus look at that stuff near cap gris nes right now. That definitely brewed up out to sea.

Proper diddly squat here, had heavier rain in May and thunder galore, minus the hype lol

Rain stopped here and all calm, went to East. Perhaps stuff later will hit us.

Wow a flash and bang North West from Maidstone. The land is fighting back

At least that 2nd cluster is slightly further west, East Anglia may see the odd flash as it dies out somewhere near Thetford at about 3am....
