Wind here has turned Ene again, did not expect that, it's the complete opposite easterly than was forecast. Not sure I've ESE or SE yet.

Little bit of light snow here, although not much showing on the radar.

After temperatures climbed slightly above freezing this morning they have now dropped away, currently -0.6c and still a few cm's of the white stuff on the ground.

With fewer sunny spells and lower dew points today, snowmelt has been less than yesterday with around 6-7cms remaining on most areas.  Shame it won't be around next week when the children are off school.

Fingers crossed for another bout of wintry weather for later this month.

Minimal melt here so far. Been for early morning walks here the past two days and it's really felt like being in a ski resort. The wind has really picked up today, I walked into Fawkham Valley which motor racing fans might know is right next to Brands Hatch. Walking back up the hill the strong Easterly wind felt incredibly refreshing!

I really do wonder what the models are aware of - at the start of this spell they seemed to be unaware of saturated, warm ground over most of the UK, and North Sea SSTs being much higher than normal.  Models, of course, are immensely complex, but these two factors are pretty basic for predicting snow formation and accumulation.

Absolutely, I would hope that sst's, sun strength and ground temp would be right up there with the parameters being used.

Temps rose to 1.8 this morning but fell quite rapidly to 0c around lunchtime and have been there ever since.

There might not be much snow lying on the ground here anymore but with the windchill added this is proper cold for North London.

Crazy stuff for here close to central the cold has impressed me not minima, tonight set to be coldest night of spell widely getting down to -6 C isolated place in east with snow cover  -10C?

Back in mid-Jan I saw the first shoots of Daffodils sprouting out the ground and I thought 'Huh, that's a month early', then I remembered there had barely been a frost here before Christmas. Spring flowers were showing their hand early despite the cool Easterly from NYD onwards. At the very least this cold spell will have pushed us closer to the average for frosts, bringing plant growth back in line with the seasons and killing pathogens in the soil. I'd find that immensely reassuring even if my TV reception was slightly affected

I am genuinely impressed with this cold spell. There is still snow cover on roofs and in the back garden. The wind is whistling through. Be interesting to see the figures overnight

Feels like the coldest day so far here, biting wind and reports snow from fields is now being blown back onto cleared roads, covering them again, honestly cant wait for the milder weather to get here and get rid of it all now.

This really is so special to see, dew points at almost -10 across parts of the region. For all the mild endless winters we endure, it really is all the more special when the chase finally pays off. I hope everyone has had a wonderful week in the cold and snow, as I know I sure have

Jeez it's cold tonight....currently -3.4C but with the biting wind it feels the coldest of this spell. Just lit the woodburner, best place to be on nights like this. Just wish it would snow now with the ground temps lowered perfectly!
