Whats made all this convection stuck over such a small narrow area? After the ESE brought some melt and brightness just had heaviest snow/graupel shower of the day for 5mins roads partially recovered the perfect wind flow for here now but not.much about building in the estuary like when we had the ESE flow typical!

The ground is still warm and wet from the mild spell leading up to this.

Same here yesterday, heavy snow all day and yet no settling but a melt instead.

Warm, wet ground just below the surface and possible ducts and drains beneath too.  Add on a little solar warming (even through cloud) and it goes fast.

same thing happened yesterday evening and better set up so guess we just need patience. The FAX charts are onto it

That’s because the graphic/hourly break downs are 100% model data driven, i.e taking a snapshot of a single model run from a single model. 

The text forecasts have human input & would have considered other variables besides a single run.

Yes this makes sense. Was just describing that it seems like it's more a case of that we are unlucky this time (due to what you've described), rather than this being particularly representative of what you might usually expect from a similar -12 easterly in early feb.

Temp here crept about freezing here for 4hrs maxed at 0.4. Strangely enough it was right after the heaviest shower of the day when the snow was just starting to fill in the gaps. Quite a lot melted from the pavements and roads but nowhere else really. The sun came out briefly as well. Back  down below freezing now.

All the powder snow of yesterday has but disappeared. 

It’s damn cold for sure but the constant heavy rains and water logged ground has won this round.

Oof, do not like that. I mean, it probably makes little difference, because you can see from the next one that it will gradually sink South and hopefully therefore cover the whole region along the way, but... I preferred the ones that had the convergence line right over my head...

Honestly that still looks very favourable. I do find those charts intriguing though - are they supposed to be a snapshot? Because if they're showing ppn total, then they're very strange and clearly unhelpful. Make much more sense as an impression of how the radar will look at that particular time.
