Surprised given the minus temps all day the thick snow on the paths  has melted so fast.

Snow all day and no settling?

Not even ice on the ground?

Those wind chill temps are very low so I can't quite work it out.

The wind chill temperature is not an actual temperature though.

I know.. just not kicking in.  Appears to be losing its omph as what little convection fades away with the sun..

Whats made all this convection stuck over such a small narrow area? After the ESE brought some melt and brightness just had heaviest snow/graupel shower of the day for 5mins roads partially recovered the perfect wind flow for here now but not.much about building in the estuary like when we had the ESE flow typical!

The ground is still warm and wet from the mild spell leading up to this.

Warm, wet ground just below the surface and possible ducts and drains beneath too.  Add on a little solar warming (even through cloud) and it goes fast.

And predictably the opposite of what the METO were saying - unless it's meant to liven up later?

My point was that the BBC's output isn't consistent within itself (i.e. lining up the text summaries and the hourly breakdowns) and neither is the MO's today.  BTW, the BBC TV forecast this morning talked of streamers, too.

That’s because the graphic/hourly break downs are 100% model data driven, i.e taking a snapshot of a single model run from a single model.

The text forecasts have human input & would have considered other variables besides a single run.

Again, the very mild and very wet lead up to this has led to much ground snow loss, when a cold, frosty precursor would not have.  Bear in mind that if all the snow that fell had accumulated (on frosty, dry ground) many more areas would have a significant depth.  That's exactly what happened here on 24 January, when snow from the west settled on a hard frost - not a flake was wasted!

Yes this makes sense. Was just describing that it seems like it's more a case of that we are unlucky this time (due to what you've described), rather than this being particularly representative of what you might usually expect from a similar -12 easterly in early feb.

Temp here crept about freezing here for 4hrs maxed at 0.4. Strangely enough it was right after the heaviest shower of the day when the snow was just starting to fill in the gaps. Quite a lot melted from the pavements and roads but nowhere else really. The sun came out briefly as well. Back  down below freezing now.

Oof, do not like that. I mean, it probably makes little difference, because you can see from the next one that it will gradually sink South and hopefully therefore cover the whole region along the way, but... I preferred the ones that had the convergence line right over my head...

Looking across the region, there seems to have been a patch of very low dew points approximately correlating to the dissipating precip south and west of the M25. For example, my temperature is around -0.8, but my DP is around -6. With such a low relative humidity, I guess this could have been inhibiting precipitation from reaching us, however it does look to increase soon to become more confined to the SW, which may help if any showers do encroach later on... by which time they will have died off, knowing our luck!

The Thorpe Park/Heathrow snow shield in force it seems........

Same here. Much rather it over my head but it does follow the UKV output.

Honestly that still looks very favourable. I do find those charts intriguing though - are they supposed to be a snapshot? Because if they're showing ppn total, then they're very strange and clearly unhelpful. Make much more sense as an impression of how the radar will look at that particular time.

Isn’t that the 12pm one? Isn’t meant to sink south till 3-4 I believe when winds turn NE? Shoot me if wrong tho.
