I feel we need to see this band (red) clear through and get out of the way and then we will see the heavier convective showers (yellow) over Norfolk slowly head further southwards down the north sea

Once the band in red has passed that will be the end. Then welcome dry cold days ahead

Everything covered again in Gillingham.

Radar showing this for at least another hour and maybe more.

We finally seem to be seeing some convection!

Cambridge is and has been one of the worst inland City/town in the South of the UK. Its flat in in no mans land when it comes to snow!

In about the crapest place for fronts from the West and to far inland for showers from the East.

I only take solace from the fact that I prefer summer over winter, and it’s very often one of the hottest and driest places through the summer. I still like winter though and would like a fair shake. This latest snow depth map for the region is just making me feel sick now

Now that’s a snow shower!...not this snizzle rubbish we are getting.

You reckon any proper streamers will set up tonight mate? Seems this isn’t a streamer more just a little front that’s popped up bringing light snow.

Indeed. The heaviest single snowfall I experienced was a NNE which developed a Southerly facing Wash streamer in December 2009. That gave 4-6 inches of widespread snow in Cambridge and the surroundings over 4-6hours

That was a good one, also do you remember the Jan 2003 NNE that left people stranded on the A14 and M11?

Got a pasting from this.

To the experts in here, are we expecting it to become more heavy/intense as the evening progresses? BBC has it snowing in Essex until 6/7AM so would be nice for it to become heavier, it’s all quite light and small flakes at the moment.

I honestly don't know.

One of the best events I’ve ever witnessed. Proper blizzard walking home from school and Lost power for over 12 hours that night. Woke up to nearly a foot of snow and sledged all day!

About 36 hours of almost constant light snow in my location but hardly anything to show for it.  I'm not really holding out much hope overnight either - I'm a glass half empty kinda girl

I seriously think we are seeing convection kicking in over the water.

It’s looking like a good night

The snow to the east of London seems to be stubbornly refusing to cross the M25. Not expecting anything from it here now this far west

Not feeling it if I’m honest mate. Just bits and pieces I think. May get the odd moderate burst but think it’s mainly light stuff. Not seeing a proper Thames streamer setting up. Better than nothing though.

Snowing fairly heavily in Basildon. Good covering now. Models have picked this streamer up really well. Started light to moderate snow around 6pm and has been slowly building in intensity ever since.  Turning into a really good little event this evening.

Heavy snow in Rayleigh. Already settled now topping up. Cars in a mess on the small hill to Rayleigh coming from Hockley.

Anyone got a link to that famous Dutch (I think) radar that shows further into the North Sea? Think it would help a lot of us tell whether convection /intensity is picking up.

I'm pretty sure it's because of the albedo effects.. not to be mistaken for libido though

Hastings has a big storm about 13.00 with snow in the beach via webcam.. heavy with a few cm on hills I reckon

We've had light snow and snizzle since the early hours of Sunday morning here ( I'm 2 miles from the webcan location ) but absolutely nothing even remotely close to resembling a 'big storm' I'm sorry to say.  I can report 4-5cms of level snow on my shed roof and patio table though.  Everything falling on paths and patios melted on contact.
