At work now in Huntingdon, underneath that frontal band. Just thick high cloud and the occasional cumulus along with some patchy snow. The streamer over Lincolnshire remaining solidly a few miles north of Peterborough.

Now come on.. you want to screw up my journey home... don’t you...

What are the prospects for huntingdon later this evening into tonight. Euro4 not sure is a good model has us under orange ?

I would suggest using the very good Netweather's radar. It will give you amazing ppn resolution and will also show you the previous, current  and in coming ppn within a specified time frame

Just a shame even in this day and age, we don't have a north sea radar...

Radar shows a small streamer with Medium intensity Zone heading from Cambridge ( South West  ) to Oxford atm.  Thames Estuary stratus cover seems to be thinning and light snow easing.

First signs of streamer development perhaps appearing in the Estuary ......one area just east of Ipswich and another just offshore East of Norwich.

Picking up here in NE London with bigger flakes too. Radar intensity slowly but surely also getting better.

Doing fair better here than I expected today, with plenty of moderate snowfall accumulating on all but the roads/concrete. Current temperature is -0.4c, making it a very probable ice day!

Been snowing all day here in Lewisham, and much like Beast 1.0, has given us a decent dusting and some mini pavement/road drifts.

Bit heavier now, darker sky, bigger flakes. But not yet what I would class as a beefy shower. Here's hoping tonight's streamer comes off as we normally do well out of these.

Crazy heavy snow here and yet not adding to the powder snow of 3cm this morning, actually causing a very slow melt. Quite unreal considering it’s nearly -2c and easterly.

The 8cm on 24th January from the west was a lot more memorable. Bizarre

When does the solar energy reduce enough do we think?

It's Early February and is below freezing with no sun after a frosty night and the snow still doesn't settle. That's why I love snow in December /January.

In and around 3pm

I think it’s more to do with the rate of precipitation. We’ve only had light snow here or flurries blowing about in the wind and although temp is -0.5 and we had a dusting at night, in the day time it doesn’t really settle. Also have to factor in the urban heat island effect with temps hovering around zero. An example of this is my thermometer reads -0.5 at the back of my garden yet on a thermometer right outside the house window is registers +0.5, that whole degree makes a big difference at those margins. The  cumulative effect of that with other houses giving out the same even more so. Three weeks ago on that Sunday the temp was 1.5 yet we had a good 5cm of settling snow in the daytime over 4 hours and dew points were higher...but the precipitation was moderate to heavy and it settled quick enough. Once the snow has settled this has the effect of reflecting of reflecting solar energy and keeping it cold at the surface. So really what we need is a good dumping??

Snow very slowly building up micrometer by micrometer in C London, no melt here. Approaching 1 inch on surfaces without grit.

'Extremely light' snow all day in Mid Sussex, has now progressed to 'very light' - so after all day yesterday, around 2 millimetres overnight and falling flakes most of today, we now have a visible covering on the cars
